Musician Josh Ritter produced a song entitled “Change of Time,” which aired on an NFL commercial in 2010. The song isn’t quite as popular to the present. That same year, Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback Michael Vick was the most popular quarterback amongst those in the league. Three years later, just as “Change of Time,” could there be a change of quarterback within the next few weeks?
Flashback to the summer of 2009 when Philadelphia took the world of sports by storm.
For a team that just released their heart and soul of its defense in safety Brian Dawkins, they needed a leader. However, that defensive-minded approach to ever Sunday changed when Vick was released from jail. The news broke of his one-year signing in the middle of a preseason matchup that year against the New England Patriots. Although, Vick was not dressed, the following preseason game was nationally televised. The media circus that was about take place was astronomical, and comparable to Tim Tebow’s. Vick’s contract did not make sense. They already had Donovan McNabb, who just led the Birds to their fifth NFC Championship game. And, they drafted the future in Kevin Kolb. Why another quarterback? The finale of 2009 was proof that Vick was the quarterback of the future after throwing the only touchdown in the NFC Wildcard game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Post 2010, Vick broke numerous team records, and led “Gang Green” in one of the most memorable seasons in recent history. Despite having an early playoff exit, Eagles fans knew they needed to ink Vick in their organization long-term (READ HERE).
After two disappointing seasons from Vick, and after the departure of former head coach Andy Reid, his job is in jeopardy. He does have the natural ability to overcome the five-way quarterback challenge, but it is up to him to adapt quickly. The future is now.
BEST OF MAXIM
There has been plenty of talk that Michael Vick is going to be the starting quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles this coming season; that his struggles from last season are outweighed by his athleticism, a key component when it comes to running Chip Kelly's read-option offense.
Those that think so are overlooking some things that are really quite obvious. In fact, it would...
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick is scheduled to make $3.5 million this season no matter what and is already collected a $3.5 million signing bonus earlier this offseason.
The question that ProFootballTalk.com asked is whether Vick will want to be traded or released if he loses the starting job to Nick Foles or even Matt Barkley during the preseason? Another question...
There was no greater position that the Philadelphia Eagles needed to upgrade this offseason than in the defensive secondary. That was obviously the case as the team signed two new starting corners and two players who could potentially be the new starters at safety.
I say “potential” new starters at safety because, while the tandem of Kenny Phillips and Patrick Chung would...
Happy Birthday, America!

Just like Bryce Brown, the NFL is getting leveled with it’s players breaking the law. (Photo Credit: http://img.bleacherreport.net/)
The NFL’s reputation has recently spiraled downward with the unsightly statistic of more than 30 players being arrested since Super Bowl XLVII. And, another Philadelphia Eagle is making in the news about dog fighting.
No, not quarterback Michael...
When most of us think about the 2013 Philadelphia Eagles, we think about the exciting possibilities that exist with Michael Vick running Chip Kelly’s offense. Second-year quarterback Nick Foles may have something to say about that by the time training camp comes to a close. According to CSNPhilly.com Eagles insider Geoff Mosher, Foles has a [...]
Geoff Mosher of y.com believes that second-year quarterback Nick Foles has an edge over Michael Vick for the Eagles starting quarterback job heading into camp. I really do. Months ago, I felt Vick had the best chance to start. The organization’s willingness to bring him back under a restructured contract despite a turbulent past two seasons, coupled with Chip Kelly’s system at...
Jimmy Kempski, author of "Blogging the bEast", put together a piece called "The 10 players the Eagles can least afford to lose to injury in 2013" over the July 4th mid-weekend.
It''s worthy of a look.
Here's how Jimmy sees it:
10. Nick Foles: A couple weeks ago, we noted the very underrated rookie season that Nick Foles had last year....
