Left tackle Demetress Bell was signed this offseason to  stand in for Pro Bowler Jason Peters after he went down with an offseason Achilles injury. The success of the offensive line is critical for ensuring success for the Philadelphia Eagles this season, and after just one preseason game the Birds decided that change was needed. During Saturday’s walk through, the towering King Dunlap (6’9, 330) was given the thumbs up to take the starting left tackle position in practice. Tim McManus reports that neither Bell nor Dunlap received an explanation as to the change. Bell took the news in stride, saying “No it’s not surprising. It is what it is. If that’s what the coaches say then that’s what it is. It’s not my job to sit there and coach. It’s my job to just play.” Bell played only 6 snaps in Thursday’s preseason opener against the Steelers but had an unimpressive outing. In fact, he may have been a key reason why Vick injured his thumb. Sheil Kapadia outlined in Birds 24/7 what happene...

Philadelphia Eagles: Preseason Week 1 Studs and Duds

STUDS: Phillip Hunt/Brandon Graham/Vinny Curry/Darryl Tapp (DE) Between the quartet of ends not named Jason Babin or Trent Cole, there were 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble (at the hands of Hunt). That’s not even counting the amount of times Ben Roethlisberger and Byron Leftwich were flushed out of the pocket with the onslaught coming. Most impressive of the quartet was Hunt, whose...

Observations and Notes From Eagles Preseason Opener Versus Steelers

The Philadelphia Eagles won their preseason opener in dramatic fashion when Alex Henery kicked a 51-yard field goal in the final seconds to give the birds a 24-23 victory.  In a game that was dedicated to Andy Reid’s son, Garrett, it was the backups who came through in the clutch. Despite preseason win, Eagles have ways to improve

While compassionate fans showed their support for Andy Reid, most of the Philadelphia Eagles gave a boo-worthy performance in their preseason opener. The first-team offense went three-and-out twice and Michael Vick barely escaped serious injury when he hurt his thumb on his last play. The starting defense allowed an opening drive that lasted 9:48 and gave up 10 points on two possessions...

Eagles woner Lurie fully controls team after divorce settlement

Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie will retain full control over the team after his divorce was settled, NFL.com reported Saturday. The New York Post reported earlier during the week that Lurie, 60, would hand over "a sizable chunk" of the team over to his ex-wife, Christina, but sources told NFL.com that the report was overstated. Only a small, non-voting share...

Both bright spots and problems revealed in Eagles win over Steelers

Photo via the Philadelphia Eagles The first preseason game of 2012 is in the books and we learned a lot about this Philadelphia Eagles team. The Birds edged out the Steelers 24-23, getting a 51-yard field goal by Alex Henery with just moments left in the game. The drive that got Philadelphia within kicking goal range was led by Trent Edwards and a says lot about the night. As head...

Andy Reid – Eagles Coach for Life?

And just like that, we may have a bit controversy in Eagles camp. The Eagles had been having a quiet training camp contract wise. The Eagles did a great job of signing their players and taking care of things so that when they got to camp this year there wouldn’t be any distractions. Coming off of a week in which Andy Reid buried his eldest son and then returned to the team the...

Andy Reid’s agent: Jeffrey Lurie said Reid will coach the Eagles as long as he’s the owner

AP Photo According to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer,  Bob LaMonte–the agent of Eagles head coach Andy Reid says that owner Jeffrey Lurie told him that as long as he’s the owner Reid will be the head coach. McLane wrote that LaMonte said, Lurie “has stated again and again, any time that I’ve been with him, that was as long as he’s the owner of the Philadelphia...

Eagles QB Michael Vick Show Improvement On Thumb Injury, Expected To Practice

Eagles Owner Jeffery Lurie Disputes Andy Reid Job Security Rumor

Superagent Bob LaMonte, who represents Andy Reid and numerous other NFL head coaches, visited Eagles training camp at Lehigh University Saturday and said owner Jeffrey Lurie has assured him that Reid will remain head coach of the Eagles as long as he wants to. Not long after LaMonte’s remarks were published, Lurie responded with a statement distancing the organization from the “Coach...

Thanks to the Backups, Eagles Edge Steelers in Preseason Opener

AP Photo/ Michael Perez In a game dedicated to Garrett Reid, it was the Eagles' third and fourth-stringers who saved the day.  If we didn't know any better, we would have thought Nick Foles and Trent Edwards were the first and second string quarterbacks. Michael Vick and Mike Kafka were dreadful as the first and second team offenses failed to score...

Philadelphia Eagles vs Pittsburgh Steelers Review

First and clearly foremost, Andy Reid received the support he deserved from Eagles’ fans throughout the game; starting with a we love you Andy chant and ending with an emotional long embrace from DeSean Jackson after Alex Henery’s game winning field goal.  That hug was obviously about much more than a preseason victory. Reid was holding tears back during the embrace. Even...

Michael Vick Desean Jackson – Face Mosh

Have you ever wondered what Philadelphia’s best offensive threat looks like mashed together? Take a look at Desean Vick in a Philadelphia Eagles Press Conference!

Vick’s X-Rays Negative

You knew I would get hurt Juan… Mike Vick already hit his hand and injured his thumb on another player’s helmet in his first preseason action. You know the risk and you know the reward. Vick’s ADP is still pretty good, but if you think he will stay healthy, good luck with that. He can win your league or be a big headache. At least the X-Rays were negative. Don’t Sleep On...

Back to Eagles camp...and some TV observations of the Steelers preseason game...

After a day off on Friday, the Eagles are back to work at Lehigh on Saturday.  I finally got to watch the game on a full-screen TV. It's weird to watch a game without the usual delays between plays, quarters and halves...I won't rehash the whole game out of respect for our regular Bored readers, but I'll make some quick observations...Serious questions still remain...
