Another week, another loss. The Philadelphia Eagles keep losing games, and I’m losing explanations as to why it’s happening. At this point, I don’t get upset when the Eagles lose. However, this 38-33 loss to the Cowboys is a bit tough to swallow because… well.. it’s the Cowboys. Still, there are some good things to take away from this game. And as a fun fact, if the NFL Draft were held today, the Eagles would have the third overall pick. Offense: Quarterback Nick Foles continued to improve this week, completing 22 passes for 251 yards and a touchdown. Foles scrambled a lot less than he did last week and looked confident in most of his throws. If he can continue to improve over the last four weeks of the season, there is no doubt that he will start the season as the quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013. Rookie running back Bryce Brown played very well, rushing for 169 yards and two touchdowns. However, he made the biggest mistake of the game when he fumbled the ball with four minutes left in the game. That fumble was scooped up by Dallas and returned for a touchdown which made the score 38-27. If he can learn to protect the ball, I think he will be a solid NFL running back. Besides a few breakdowns by King Dunlap, the offensive line was pretty solid. For the second week in a row, there was a good balance between the run and the pass, which automatically helps the line because it keeps the defense guessing. Overall, it was a solid night for the offense. Grade: B Defense: The secondary was the Achilles heel once again for the Eagles defense. It’s now obvious that Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Nnamdi Asomugha are just dogging it out there. How many big plays can Rodgers-Cromartie give up before he gets benched? How many tackles can Asomugha miss before he gets benched? I understand that there isn’t much depth at that position, but something needs to change. I would rather have guys busting their butt out there and just making mistakes rather than two guys who just don’t care. Dallas quarterback Tony Romo had a stellar game against the Eagles, completing 22 passes for 303 yards and three touchdowns. Before this game, Romo had struggled completing passes on third down. Against the Eagles, it looked easy. The Eagles actually did a decent job controlling the Dallas run game, limiting Demarco to 83 yards on 23 carries. This was the sixth game in a row that the Eagles have given up 28 points or more on defense. I would hope that the secondary receives a major overhaul during the offseason. Nobody deserves to be back next year. The effort just isn’t there. Grade: D- This game represented what this Eagles season has been all about. They’ve hung tough in a bunch of games, but at the end of the day, the turnovers have killed them. Next up is a match up at Tampa Bay against a resurgent Buccaneers team.
