The Philadelphia Eagles travel to our nation’s capital to take on the 3-6 Washington Redskins and their star rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III. The Eagles are coming off a brutal 38-23 loss to the Cowboys and also sit at 3-6. This game is simply a battle to stay out of the basement of the NFC East. It’s also a game featuring two head coaches (Andy Reid and Mike Shanahan) who could be out of a job come January.   Eagles Offense vs. Redskins Defense: The Eagles announced Friday that Nick Foles will start at quarterback over the injured Michael Vick on Sunday. Foles, who will start for the first time in his career, has shown confidence while taking snaps with the first team this week at practice. For Eagles fans, this is their first real look at the quarterback of the future. However, it doesn’t matter who is starting at quarterback if the offensive line can’t block. Right guard Danny Watkins remains questionable due to an ankle injury, which means that the Eagles could be without four of their five  starting offensive linemen again this week. However, that’s no excuse for the pathetic play this line has shown the past couple of weeks. This is the NFL. When one guy goes down, the next guy better be ready to step up. The backup linemen on this Eagles team look like they would struggle playing against a division three college football team. If the Eagles want to win any remaining games this season, the line will have to step up. The good news for the Eagles is that the Redskins are giving up over 27 points a game on average. The Redskins pass defense is ranked 30th out of 32 teams. The Eagles, in theory, should have a field day. I’m not going to go that far, but I do think they have a slight edge. Edge: Eagles Eagles Defense vs. Redskins Offense  The Eagles will have their hands full against the elusive Robert Griffin III. RG3 has played well for the Redskins this year, throwing for 1,993 yards and eight touchdowns. He has also rushed for 529 yards and has scored six touchdowns. The Eagles, meanwhile, have had tackling issues. If that continues, RG3 will torch this defense. The Redskins will look to attack the vulnerable safeties of the Eagles with Santana Moss, Pierre Garcon, and Josh Morgan. Don’t sleep on the running backs either. Alfred Morris has rushed for 793 yards and five touchdowns so far this season. I would like to think that Eagles defensive coordinator Todd Bowles will finally turn this defense around, but I don’t see it. Edge: Redskins X-Factor: The Redskins are 3-17 at home under Mike Shanahan. Simply put, they are terrible at protecting their home field. Prediction: Eagles 27 Redskins 24 Someone has to win, so I’m going to pick the Eagles. Like I said, the Redskins are terrible at home. I think the Nick Foles era will begin with a bang, but it won’t be enough to put the Eagles back in the playoff hunt.
