Philip Rivers signs contract extension for $93 Million

Philip Rivers is laughing all the way to the bank. It's confirmed that the Chargers have locked up their man until 2015, with a huge contract extension. According to reports almost $40 million is guaranteed with a $20 million signing bonus. The numbers seem staggering but it's actually less than the Giants are paying Eli Manning who is clearly the inferior quarterback. I'm thinking these numbers are way out of whack for a quarterback who has yet to really blow me out of the water. Granted Rivers really doesn't have a whole lot to work with outside of pro bowler Antonio Gates. Inside the mind of A.J. Smith: I'm not exactly sure what the Chargers GM is thinking here. I guess he feels that Philip Rivers IS the quarterback to lead his team. I'd have to disagree, at least with the way LT has been playing and the lack of a star receiver. If I'm Rivers I'm not signing this extension until they get me someone to throw to. Although send me $40 mil guaranteed and I'm probably taking the money and counting it for the next six years. I'm excited to see how Philip Rivers plays with this new contract, hopefully he'll live up to the money. Philip Rivers has a great arm with great accuracy. If he had a top five receiver I think the Chargers would be a force in the AFC, and Superbowl contenders but for now, I think they make the playoffs but don't do any damage.
