Last season, first-round draft pick J.J. Watt enjoyed a solid rookie campaign, recording 5½ sacks, 2 fumble recoveries, 4 passes defensed, and even blocked a field goal for the Texans.

The 23-year-old defensive end can do it all, and his merits have earned him the highest possible praise from Houston's defensive boss.

Following Monday's training camp practice, coordinator Wade Phillips gushed over the potential of Watt, who he foresees going on to have a Hall of Fame career.

“He’s going to be a bust — not a first-round bust but a bust in the Hall of Fame,” defensive coordinator Wade Phillips said, via the Houston Chronicle. “The only players I’ve seen that can do what he can do with his intensity can be found in Canton.”

Phillips said Watt reminds him of Hall of Famer Howie Long, the longtime Raiders defensive end who shared similar attributes.

“I’ve seen a lot of guys, and I compare him to Howie in that he has the same quickness to beat (offensive) linemen off the ball. He’s a smart guy who gets it.”

It's not just Phillips who've showered Watt with praise; his teammates recognize a star in the making.

“I expect J.J. to become a megastar,” Antonio Smith said. “I told him, ‘People are going to be looking for you this year (and), you’re not going to surprise them anymore. They’re going to get up to play because of your reputation. He’s got a tremendous upside.”

“He’s stronger than I’ve ever seen him,” Brooks Reed said. “He’s abnormally fast for a man that size. He’s also strong at the point of attack. He has great eye-hand coordination. I think he can be better than last year. He’s got unlimited ability.”

Blessed with an extremely high motor and athleticism, Watt is 6-foot-5, 295 pound wrecking ball, and the complete package as far as 3-4 ends go. He's still got many playing years left ahead of him, but it wouldn't be a surprise if Phillips' premonition eventually comes to pass.
