We are almost halfway through the NFL season so my eyes seem to be focused on the teams that look to be built for a chance to play in New Orleans this February. Panthers @ Bears – The Panthers travel to Chicago to take on the Bears, a team that keeps surprising me week after week. At 5-1, the Bears are sitting in a pretty decent spot atop the NFC North. Minnesota is falling and Detroit doesn’t appear to have whatever magic they had last season. Carolina on the other hand looks to be a much worse team than anyone originally predicted. The Bears are giving 7.5 in this one but this is a game where a truly elite team should crush a much weaker team. I’ll take Chicago to win and cover. They just seem to have it at the moment. Jaguars @ Packers – Green Bay needs to keep on winning in order to keep the Chicago Bears within their sights. Good news for Green Bay, they get to play an awful Jacksonville team at home this week. The Jags will be without Maurice Jones-Drew  and Blaine Gabbert is questionable at the moment. I don’t think that matters much as the Packers seem to be on a roll with 2 straight wins. The question is, how much do they win by? Can they cover the 13.5 point spread? I’m confident in the Packers winning, I just can’t say that any team will win by 2 TD’s so I have to go with Jacksonville here based on the points. You watch, this one won’t be close but 13.5 is A LOT. Dolphins @ NY Jets – Jets did a great job last week in New England and despite the loss, the AFC East is still within their grasp. I haven’t bought into New England winning the division just yet because every time I expect them to do well, they either lose or pull one out of their ass. Like the game against the Colts though, this is a MUST WIN for the Jets in order to keep the AFC East or the playoffs within the realm of possibility. The Jets haven’t ever swept the Dolphins under Rex Ryan so this could finally be the year. Don’t expect the Dolphins to just roll over though, the AFC East and the playoffs are also within their grasp. This game and this division is real tight. I expect playoff like atmosphere for this game but it could be messy depending on where Sandy is come Sunday afternoon. Jets are favored by 2.5 and I’ll take the Jets because of the home field. Falcons @ Eagles – Another East Coast game that could be an ugly mess because of Sandy that is headed towards the Northeast. Both teams are coming of a bye week so it will be interesting to see what each team has to bring. The Falcons offense had been sputtering a little bit going into the bye week but wins are wins and they are 6-0. The Eagles are getting back to action after some coaching changes in hopes to shake things up. The Eagles are giving 2.5 which I just don’t understand. Vick has had problems with defenses all year, probably because of his inability to actually read a defense and now he faces a tough Falcons defense. I’m taking Atlanta all the way in this one. NY Giants @ Cowboys – Fact: The Giants do really well in Cowboys Stadium. Fact: Giants will be out of revenge after the Cowboys kicked their tails around on Opening Night. Fact: The Cowboys are a team that appears to be in a little bit of a mess. Fact: Giants will extend their lead in the NFC East this weekend. It’s not that Dallas can’t win this game, I just think they won’t. Sean Lee is done for the year, THAT’S BIG!! Offensively, the Cowboys just don’t do it for me. It appears the weapons are there but they just don’t have the impact you would expect. A win for Dallas would be huge but I don’t see it. It’ll probably be close but Eli will once again show up in the 4th and just take over. 49ers @ Cardinals – This is the battle for the NFC West (or if Seattle can beat Detroit, we could have a 3 way tie in this division). The trash talking began earlier this week and I hope for the 49ers sake, it works better than the trash talking against the Giants did. This game comes down to two things for me. If you are the 49ers, let Frank Gore take control of this game but throw everything you have at Arizona. Let Jacobs, Williams and Ginn Jr. get involved in the running game as well. Exploit the Arizona offense. They have the second worst offense in the league right now and now have to face the 49ers. OUCH. If you are the Niners, win the battles on defense and keep the Arizona defense from getting long breaks on the side lines. Niners are favored by 6.5 and I do think they can cover.
