This year the NFL started it’s season a day earlier, moving the traditional weekday night game featuring the current Super Bowl Champion up one day from Thursday to Wednesday. That means NFL fans get their fix even sooner as the Dallas Cowboys take on the reigning champ New York Giants in a key NFC East division battle.

Tony Romo and company look poised to have a big season, but only if the offensive line can keep him upright. No small feat versus the Giants’ army of pass-rushers.

That’s what the made the Giants two time Super Bowl Champions in the past five years- athletes like Jason Pierre-Paul and company that can overpower an opposing OL and slow down even the most potent of opposing offenses. The New England Patriots in 2007 and last year possessed one of the most prolific scoring and passing units in league history, but even they couldn’t solve the big blue blitz. I predict the ‘Boys won’t either. Even though the Giants are banged up corner right now, I think they’re front seven can more than compensate and will end up dominating this game in the Meadowlands.

Romo is a great quarterback, but he doesn’t make others around him great, and that’s what he needs to accept and conquer this challenge tonight.

On the other side of the ball, Eli Manning has plenty of weapons to work with, starting with Victor Cruz who will face off against a re-tooled Dallas secondary. The Cowboys went into draft night with defensive back a primary need and made some noise by trading up to land blue chip prospect Morris Claiborne of LSU. Claiborne has already polarized football fans with his admitted blowing off of the Wonderlic test at the draft combine. He claims his horrible score is due to his lack of trying. We’ll see what his football IQ looks like Wednesday night as he faces off against the league’s number one team, and a favorite to repeat in just his first game as a rookie.
