Unlike many other of their impending free agents, Pierre Garcon is at or near the top of the Colts’ to-do list.
The team would like to lock him up with a long-term deal, but, as they’re learning, the fifth-year wideout may have his heart set on testing the open market.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Garcon recently rejected a five-year contract offer from the Colts, adding credence to a January Tribune Star report that he’d first like to “look around” before making a decision.
Schefter didn’t disclose the financial terms of the proposal, though Garcon is said to be aiming for deal that pays him upwards of $8 million annually — ala Sidney Rice.
Whether he deserves that type of money is entirely debatable; the decision to retain the 25-year-old is not, if for nothing else but continuity’s sake.
