Going 0-4 in the preseason for the Pittsburgh Steelers didn’t seem all that bad. It’s only the preseason right? Well maybe going 0-4 in the preseason should’ve been taken a bit more seriously. The Steelers opened their season on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans and their performance was an absolute train wreck. If there were any questions surrounding the Steelers during the offseason, those questions have doubled after the team lost to the Titans 16-9. The Steelers offense couldn’t spark anything the entire game. Ben Roethlisberger and crew could only muscle up a touchdown in the very last minute of the fourth quarter when the game was already out of reach. Roethlisberger finished the day 21 for 33, 191 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Protecting Roethlisberger is always a concern and this season’s no different. In fact , things got even more complicated as center Maurkice Pouncey was carted off the field and taken to the hospital. The heart of the Steelers offensive line suffered damage to both his MCL and ACL. The Steelers will play the rest of this season without their Pro-Bowl center. The Steelers running game will continue to be concern all season long. Isaac Redman didn’t turn any heads and certainly didn’t make a compelling argument to be the Steelers steady running back. He coughed up the ball in the red zone during a drive where it would appear the Steelers were going to come away with some points. Redman carried the ball eight times for nine yards. The team’s total rushing yards was a mere 32 on the day. LaRod Stephens-Howling led the team with 19 rushing yards. Stephens-Howling also suffered a torn ACL during the game, that’ll do it for him this season as well. With Stephen-Howling’s injury, the Steelers will now resign their recent release, Jonathan Dwyer. The Steelers special teams needs to continue to improve. The team acquired punter, Zoltan Mesko from the Patriots and he didn’t exactly dazzle in his debut. The Steelers lacked any decent field position all game and on several occasions handed the Titians great field position. If the special teams doesn’t see improvement, the battle for good field position in games will not be in the Steelers favor. The Steleers defense was the only decent looking aspect of the game. The defense did well containing the rushing attack and only allowed the Titian’s to have 117 passing yards. Troy Polamalu looked good and seems to have his edge back. The Steelers lost linebacker Larry Foote during the game due to a ruptured bicep. Foote is now another player gone for the year due to an injury sustained in the season opener. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin recognized the poor effort given on Sunday. “Unacceptable performance. I won’t accept it. This team better not accept it. We’ve got some work to do” Tomlin said. Indeed the Steelers have a lot of work to do if they wish to make this season a successful one. If the Steelers can’t turn things around early the black and gold may be headed toward a repeat of last year.

Steelers counting on Roethlisberger to stay healthy

As the injuries, procedures, and surgeries continue to pile up for Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers, just how much can his body take? At 31, he fully recovered from minor surgery on his right knee, but it’s the same surgery he had in 2005 on his left knee. Over the last several years Roethlisberger has suffered numerous injuries, from a cracked rib that could have...

Steelers positional grades against the Titans

Quarterback: Ben Roethlisberger didn’t do anything special. Roethlisberger threw for 191 yards, 1 touchdown, and an interception. Ben didn’t complete many passes that went of 10 yards or more. Not all of the Steelers’ passing problems were because of Roethlisberger. There was some questionable play-calling, and the Titans really locked down on the Steelers’ receivers. Grade...

Titans stun lifeless Steelers, 16-9

Tennessee's revamped defense sacked Ben Roethlisberger five times and the Titans shut down the Pittsburgh Steelers 16-9 on Sunday. Chris Johnson ran for 70 clock-chewing yards, Jackie Battle bulled his way to a 3-yard touchdown in the second quarter, and Rob Bironas kicked three field goals for the Titans. Tennessee's new-look defense did the rest. Pittsburgh managed just...

Pittsburgh Steelers: The Joan Rivers of the NFL

Yup I said it. Joan Rivers is a metaphor for the once almighty Pittsburgh Steelers. After seeing what was a putrid performance against an “O.K.” at best Tennessee Titans team, I think it’s apropos. Much like Joan Rivers, the Steelers used to be an intimidating force. But, after many face-lifts, Ben Roethlisberger’s hood ornament accident among others, and injuries to many...

Don’t overreact, unless you’re a Steelers Fan

Week 1 of the NFL is full of the unexpected. In fact, the first few weeks of the NFL season are usually meaningless and filled with odd results that don’t make much sense at the end of the season. While everyone quickly overreacts there is one certain, the Pittsburgh Steelers are in serious trouble. As Ben Roethlisberger and an already beat up offensive line, travel to Cincinnati...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Texas Rangers – Game 142

Wanna be depressed?  Go ahead and read our Pirates and Steelers recaps. Outside of Andrew McCutchen or Ben Roethlisberger dying I don’t think yesterday could have gone much worse for the respective teams. I don’t think people are considering that the Pirates can still miss the playoffs. They’ve been in first or second for so…
