The Pittsburgh Steelers’ salary-cap noose, which had been tight enough to choke even the most pencil-thin neck, is a whole lot more comfortable now that the NFL has increased the cap to $133 million. That’s $10 million more than last season and nearly $7 million more than the projection. This is the Steelers’ biggest stroke of luck off the field since David DeCastro dropped all the way to No. 24 in the first round of the 2012 draft. With this windfall, the Steelers can get down to the business of re-signing Jason Worilds. They can even do it without making any of the gut-wrenching cuts that have become as much a part of March in recent years as green beer. That’s right. Ike Taylor and LaMarr Woodley don’t have to bow out in the same unceremonious way that Hines Ward, James Farrior and Aaron Smith did in 2012. At least not this year. Let’s not even lump Troy Polamalu into this category. The Steelers need him in 2014 and he’s worth every bit of his $8.25 million salary. Taylor and Wo...

A Look At What The Steelers Are Betting Against By Transition Tagging LB Jason Worilds

Now that the Pittsburgh Steelers have placed the transition tag on linebacker Jason Worilds, they will have the right to match any offer sheet he should sign with another team. With that being said, what kind of contract structure would they potentially have a tough time matching? For starters, the Steelers use of the transition tag on Worilds means that they are prepared for him...

Transition Tag on Jason Worilds Will Have Ramificiations

I guess we now know what value the Pittsburgh Steelers place on Jason Worilds. The Steelers chose the little-used transition tag to keep Worilds on the roster at least for one more season. The move is a bit of a surprise since General Manager Kevin Colbert said recently that he “doubted” the team would use either the franchise or transition tag. Worilds will now make $9.7 million...

Jason Worilds’ chances of staying in Pittsburgh don’t seem good

var ACE_AR = {Site: '898551', Size: '468060', CallType: 'IFRAME'}; Scott brown of ESPN.com doesn’t like Jason Worilds’ chances of re-signing with the Steelers this offseason. I don’t like them if he hits the open market unless the Steelers are willing to pay more than they probably would like to retain the fourth-year veteran. It would be ideal for...

Pittsburgh Steelers place the transition tag on Jason Worilds

The Steelers named outside linebacker Jason Worilds their transition player, the team announced. This is a very smart move, because the team had to keep the young linebacker on their roster.  Worilds is coming off of an 8 sack season in Pittsburgh. That guarantees Worilds, who wasn’t even a full-time starter last year, a one-year deal worth […]The post Pittsburgh Steelers...

Highly Unlikely, But Could Both Worilds and Woodley Leave the Steelers?

As we spend nearly every waking hour on who the Pittsburgh Steelers might draft with the 15th overall pick in May we must remember there are a number of things that are yet to happen that could greatly influence who that selection is. Furthermore, what happens over the next couple of months with the Steelers could impact what they do in the entire draft and not just the first round...

Signing Period For Transition Tagged Players Begins On March 22

One interesting aspect of the transition tag that was given on Monday to Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Jason Worilds is the signing period that comes along with it. According to the latest press release by the NFL, that signing period for transition tagged players begins at 4:00 p.m. ET on March 22. Players that were issued the franchise tag, however, have a signing period that...

Steelers’ Chances Of Keeping OLB Jason Worilds Don’t Appear To Be Good

Scott Brown of ESPN.com writes that the Steelers’ chances of retaining free agent OLB Jason Worilds aren’t very good if he’s able to reach the open market. Browns adds that the Steelers would likely have to overpay him in the coming week in order to prevent him from fielding offers from interested teams in the next few weeks. Worilds is expected to be one of the hottest...

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Monday that are using the transition tag on free agent OLB Jason Worilds. The transition tag will cost the Steelers $10.039 million as opposed to the franchise tag total of $11.654 million. This designation will give the Steelers the ability to match any offer he receives on the open market within the first five days.
