The Pittsburgh Steelers have won two straight games. The Steelers beat their divisional rivals, the Baltimore Ravens, 19-16 in dramatic fashion. Shaun Suisham kicked a game winning field goal in the final seconds to lift the Steelers over the Ravens. Suisham just might be the team’s MVP so far this season. The kicker deserves a lot of credit. Suisham was a perfect 4 for 4 against the Ravens on Sunday, he accounted for 12 of the 19 points the Steelers scored. This is the second consecutive game where Suisham’s gone 4 for 4 on field goals. The Steelers only muscled up one touchdown, Ben Roethlisberger threw a shovel pass to tight end, Heath Miller who ran a short distance into the end zone for the score. The Steelers haven’t been able to finish off drives this season. Too many times the Steelers are stalling in the red zone and settling for field goals. This is a bad habit that’s carried over from previous seasons. The team’s lucky to have Suisham who’s established himself as a “sure thing.” Suisham is a perfect 10 for 10 on the season and contributed 38 total points for the Steelers. Even though Suisham has been fantastic this season the Steelers cannot rely on him for every game. The Steelers need to ditch the habit of settling for field goals. Against Baltimore, Roethlisberger delivered a perfect ball in the end zone to wide receiver, Derek Moye who dropped a sure six. This led to a Suisham field goal. This is a perfect example of the Steelers missing an opportunity to score a touchdown. This came back to haunt the Steelers as the Ravens answered right back and tied the game at 16. The Steelers managed to move the ball down the field to set Suisham up for the game-winner but a touchdown catch by Moye would have made for some breathing room. These stalling drives especially in the red zone need to be minimized. It is reassuring to know the Steelers can depend on Suisham to get the job done when he’s called upon. Suisham has yet to kick a field goal beyond 50 yards, his longest is a 48 yarder. However, Suisham has made his fair share of long kicks and the Steelers should have all the confidence in Suisham to kick 50 plus yarders. The Steelers still sit at the bottom of the division but by beating the Ravens, Baltimore drops to 3-4 on the year while the Green Bay packers handled the Cleveland Browns, who also drop to 3-4. Sitting at the top of the AFC North is the Cincinatti Bengals who like the Steelers won on a last second field goal to beat the Detroit Lions. The Bengals have a comfortable lead in the division but the Steelers are making some noise with these two victories. In a division that isn’t all that great, it isn’t unrealistic to think the Steelers have a chance. The Steelers will hit the road to face the Oakland Raiders and will need to keep the win streak in tact. The Steelers can only win to increase their chance of a playoff birth and have to hope the Bengals, Browns and Ravens aren’t so fortunate.
