Hero of the Game:

After being virtually non-existent in the Oakland Raiders' running attack, Darren McFadden finally wakes up in a home upset of the Steelers.

The first two games of the season, McFadden has ran the ball 26 times for 54 yards.

The play of Carson Palmer had been struggling from this as well, with just two touchdowns in the air, and an overall record of 0-2. Sunday, it all came together.

McFadden ran the ball 18 times for 113 yards and a touchdown. This included a 64-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to set the offensive tone.

The ability to run the ball opened up the passing attack of the Raiders. Palmer was then able to connect on 24 of 34 attempts for 209 yards and three touchdowns. The difference-maker and game ball, from my standpoint, goes to Mr. McFadden.

Zero of the Game:

Isaac Redman gets the LVP award (least valuable player). For years, the Steelers have been known as a team to produce a strong rushing attack to open up their passing game. With the absence of their normal every down start, Rashard Mendenhall, the Steelers have relied on Redman.

The ability to run the ball has been the Steeler way of eating time on the clock, gaining yards on lengthy time possessions, and icing the opposing team’s offense by keeping them off of the field.

This wasn’t the case Sunday. The Steelers had a two score lead on two different occasions today from the arm of Ben Roethlisberger.

Roethlisberger, who threw for 384 yards and four touchdowns on 36 of 49 passing attempts, was the vocal point of the offense today. With the lead, Redman couldn’t find any running lanes to give the Steelers any breathing room and left them in 3rd and long situations in the second half. Consider this the last game for Redman to be the premiere back, as Mendenhall looks to return after the team’s upcoming bye week.
