The Pittsburgh Steelers waived running back Chris Rainey following his arrest for a domestic battery incident Thursday morning in Gainesville, Fla.
According to reports, a witness called 911 stating that a male and female were in an argument which turned physical.
Rainey was the man at the scene when the police arrived. Allegedly, Rainey and the female victim were arguing over the running back’s cellphone and he slapped her across the face.
The former fifth-round pick (159th overall in the 2012 NFL Draft) out of Florida chased after the female victim and they fell to the ground, with no injuries according to a police statement.

Rainey was sent to Alachua County jail for booking.
“Chris Rainey’s actions this morning were extremely disappointing,” said Steelers’ general manager Kevin Colbert. “Under the circumstances and due to this conduct, Chris will no longer be a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.”
