In honor of the Giants’ first game against their old friend, Jeremy Shockey, I’ll start by quoting one of his most infamous rants:
The Giants were out-played and out-coached.
Write that down.
We knew they were out-played (duh!) but the fact that they were out-coached - - sometimes badly - - might be the most disturbing part of the Giants’ 48-27 loss in New Orleans. The game plan didn’t seem to make a lot of sense on either side of the football, and if there were any in-game adjustments made they were certainly well-hidden. The Giants’ offense looked like it wanted to engage in an aerial shootout, rather than rely on their powerful ground game. And the defense seemed to be caught flat-footed and possibly confused in the face of every mismatch the Saints offense created.
