Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu will not have to pay for his expensive phone call. Polamalu broke NFL rules by using a phone during a game this season, drawing a $10,000 fine for his action. League rules prohibit the use of cell phones on the bench from 90 minutes prior to kickoff to the conclusion of the game. What was so urgent that he needed to borrow the team trainer's cell phone? Well, Polamalu was calling his wife, Theodora, to let her know that he was OK after taking a knee to the head while stopping Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew during the fourth quarter of a game in October. The 2010 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Polamalu promptly appealed the penalty and won his argument on Thursday. At the time of the infraction, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin ripped the league for lacking common sense. "He has had a history of concussion-like symptoms in the past," Tomlin told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette at the time. "(She) was conc...

Steelers Could Have 2012 Salary Cap Wiggle Room With Woodley & Timmons Contracts

When you look at the daunting salary cap issues that the Pittsburgh Steelers have facing them in 2012, there seems to be some wiggle room on at least a couple of the high priced contracts of linebackers LaMarr Woodley and Lawrence Timmons and it comes as a result of how the new contracts each signed prior to the start of the 2011 season were structured. In 2012 Woodley has a $5...

Polamalu cell-phone appeal opens a can of worms

MDS pointed out earlier today that Steelers safety Troy Polamalu won the appeal of his $10,000 fine for telling his wife via cell phone that, despite leaving a game with “concussion-like symptoms,” he was fine.  The good news is that the ruling demonstrates to folks like Polamalu, who previously bashed the appeal system, that it’s…

Polamalu wins appeal of $10,000 fine for calling his wife

In October, Steelers safety Troy Polamalu left a game with “concussion-like symptoms” and picked up a cell phone on the sideline to call his wife and tell her he was OK. As a result, the NFL fined him $10,000, because cell phone use during games is not allowed. But now there’s some good news for…

Leadership: The Missing Piece In 2012

By Jeremy Hritz Before the 2011 Steelers season even began, a gaggle of random acts of immaturity unrelated to anything on the playing field raised serious reasons for concern. LaMarr Woodley ran off at the mouth on the NFL Network that Joe Flacco would not win a Super Bowl “in his lifetime;” Rashard Mendenhall foolishly shared an insensitive personal perspective about 9-11...

On the Steelers: Wallace could leave in offseason, but, for now, that seems unlikely

Hines Ward will not be the only receiver in danger of leaving the Steelers before the 2012 season begins. One of the Young Money trio's contract expires, and, whether Mike Wallace returns, could depend on several factors inside and outside the organization.
