Minnesota Vikings cornerback Benny Sapp was cited for misdemeanor assault because he allegedly pushed and chest-bumped a security officer at Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis after he was running late for work. Sapp’s wife was visiting a patient.
He was trying to drop off his 11-year-old son to his wife when the trouble started near a parking ramp at the hospital.
Minneapolis police said that security officers directed Sapp away from an unauthorized hospital entrance. Police said Sapp returned moments later and “stated he was in a hurry and was going to use the entrance whether it was closed or not.”
“The security officer made it clear he was not going to do so,” said Minneapolis police Sgt. William Palmer. “Mr. Sapp left the 11-year-old boy with the officer and stated he had to go to work. The security officer told Sapp he needed to bring the boy to his mother. Not knowing the situation, the officer attempted to detain Mr. Sapp in the parking ramp and wouldn’t let him leave in his vehicle.”
