Mario Williams is extremely talented, but will he primarily play DE or OLB in the 3-4 defense? (Source: YardBarker.com)

One of the biggest questions this off-season is where play-makers Mario Williams and Brian Cushing should fit into the Texans new 3-4 defense.

Mario Williams has a tremendous amount of talent. How should the Texans best manage this? Should they use his athletisism farther out on the edge at OLB, or should keep his hand down and continue to rush from the DE position?

In a similar situation is Brian Cushing. Cushing is primarily known to be an OLB even though he did play at MLB a bit last season after Demeco Ryans was lost due to injury. It wasn’t a great experiment, but I believe he would be significantly better at the role given time to practice it. Remember, Cushing was immediately thrown into the role and had minimal time to adjust.

In my opinion, the Texans should use Mario Williams primarily as a DE but move him outside from time to time to mix it up. As for Cushing, I would also leave him where he is at OLB. Cushing could essentially be a clone of Clay Matthews playing OLB in the 3-4.

So now it’s time for you to decide.
