GREEN BAY, Wisc. -- If Dom Capers has a scouting report on Joe Webb, he had to dust it off at the last minute. The Minnesota Vikings will be without starting quarterback Christian Ponder for Saturday night’s NFC wild-card game at Lambeau Field against the Vikings. Ponder, who was limited mostly to mental work at practice this week, tested his sore right (throwing) elbow during the pregame. After watching Ponder throw, the Vikings made the determination to make Ponder one of their seven inactive players. In his place, Minnesota will start Webb. Webb, a sixth-round pick in 2010 out of Alabama-Birmingham, started two games in place of an injured Brett Favre in 2010 and also got significant action in a pair of games in 2011. He’s thrown passes in 10 games and completed 88-of-152 (57.9 percent) for 853 yards, with three touchdowns, five interceptions and a passer rating of 66.6. Webb is a major running threat, with 41 carries for 273 yards (6.6 average). He rushed for 109 yards at...

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder said his injured right arm wouldn't have allowed him to play in Saturday night's playoff game in Green Bay. On Monday, he demonstrated why.

THEY WENT THERE
Joe Webb got the start tonight in lieu of the injured Christian Ponder and he did not fare well, at least during the first half. Webb was 3 for 12 for only 22 yards halfway through the third quarter, and you just knew angry Vikings fans would be looking for revenge. Revenge came in the form of hacking Webb’s Wikipedia page. Joe Webb's size and athletic ability tantalized former Minnesota Vikings' coach Brad Childress, the type of talent that can tease NFL coaches and is hard to give up on. Minnesota drafted Webb in the sixth round of the 2010 draft out of Alabama-Birmingham and had decided to turn the former college quarterback into a wide receiver.
The 6-foot-4 Webb is big, strong and fast...

The Minnesota Vikings have an uphill climb to say the least tonight traveling up to the frozen tundra at Lambeau Field even more so now that Joe Webb was named the starting quarterback tonight despite never throwing a single pass the entire season. The Packers prepped all week for the wrong quarterback – not that they knew. With Christian Ponder a late scratch, Joe Webb gave the Vikings little chance of leading an upset in the first round of the playoffs.
The Vikings task tonight recently got just a little bit more difficult. According to Al Michaels, reporting during a break in the early game between the Bengals and the Texans, indicated that Ponder tried out his arm before the game before the team declared him inactive. Joe will be the Vikings' starter.
The most glaring difference between Webb and Ponder is that Webb is...

The Vikings beat the Packers just last week so they will definitely hang within 8 of the Packers this week right? Well, that seems to be what everything thinks as the public is all over the Vikings. However, as is frequently the case when the public likes a dog, I expect them to be wrong. The Vikings are a...

Adrian Peterson was shut down and Christian Ponder sidelined.
That left the Minnesota Vikings short-handed, overmatched and barely able to do much of anything against the Green Bay Packers.
Peterson was held to 99 yards, after gaining 199 and 210 in the first two games against Green Bay, and Joe Webb struggled in place of Ponder as the Packers rolled to a 24-10 victory over the...
