Bare in mind, all of this nonsense has been brought to you by the wonderful NBA CBA, which has never made any sense to anyone. The CBA contains numerous stringent trade restrictions that were probably designed to prevent lop-sided salary dumps, but have only served as the genesis for a salary dump of a different kind whereby teams dump their hefty contracts in exchange for expiring salary and draft picks. In that regard, the CBA has utterly failed the intention for which it was designed, and instead only serves to make the NBA the most difficult league in which to complete a trade. So while the league sits by and watches players such as Gasol get dealt for a pair of sweaty socks, the New York Knicks languish in salary cap hell. I don't think anyone should pity the Knicks, but I do wonder how the league or its fans benefit from seeing any team handcuffed for nearly a decade. Bottom line: If the NBA is so tough, it should enact a hard cap a seen in the NFL and NHL. Otherwise, it should abandon this ridiculous "soft" cap and adopt MLB's luxury tax standard. At least in major league baseball, a guy like Mo Vaughn is worthless to everyone.
