TEMPE -- Colin Parker walked into the Cardinals dressing room on Friday morning and was greeted by a depressing remodeling job. Gone were the lockers for former Arizona State teammate Eddie Elder and former University of Arizona rivals Paul Vassallo and Gino Crump. No name tags, no equipment, no trace of their former presence. I knew cuts were coming, but it was crazy how fast it moved, Parker said. After the Cards arrived home from their fourth preseason game on Thursday night in Tennessee, Parker dropped Elder off at his home at 2:45 a.m. on Friday. By 7 a.m., Elder, Vassallo, Crump and others had received the bad news from the Cardinals along with a request to return their playbooks. Such is life for players on the football margins. One day, youre throwing your body in harms way, the next youre looking for a job. More players will be doing the latter when the Cards and other teams make their final cuts following this weekends final NFL preseason games. All NFL rosters must...

Kevin Kolb reportedly has edge over John Skelton

The Arizona Cardinals have yet to name a starter for week one of the regular season. Will Kevin Kolb get the nod to start the first game? (Credit: AP Photo) For some reason, the Arizona Cardinals have yet to name a starting quarterback for week one of the regular season. While neither John Skelton or Kevin Kolb have looked impressive in any of their pre-season games, it is shocking...

Ryan Lindley to start Cardinals final preseason game

Arizona Cardinals rookie quarterback Ryan Lindley will get the start in their final preseason game in place of Kevin Kolb and John Skelton. Ken Whisenhunt made it clear that Lindley was not part of the quarterback competition, but this is still a great opportunity for Lindley who could potentially see some action late in the season for the Cardinals. It’s become clear than Kolb...

Batiste, rookie Massie move in at OT for Arizona

Arizona coach Ken Whisenhunt is shifting D'Anthony Batiste to left tackle and moving in rookie Bobby Massie at right tackle as he works to stabilize what has been a shaky offensive line since the loss of Levi Brown to a season-ending injury. Whisenhunt liked the combination in last Thursday's loss at Tennessee and plans to play them only a small amount of time in Thursday...

Cardinals look to defense, ground game for success

For years, the Arizona Cardinals struggled playing defense and running the ball. Going into this season, those are their strengths, and they'll need them if they expect to improve on an 8-8 season of a year ago. With problems at quarterback and along the offensive line, the passing game is a big question mark, even though Arizona features one of the most prolific wide receivers...

Report: Cardinals will name starting QB on Friday

With a little more than a week left before the start of the regular season, the Arizona Cardinals still have not named a starting quarterback, but apparently that will change Friday. Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt is expected to name either Kevin Kolb or John Skelton as his starting quarterback on Friday, the Sporting News reported Thursday. Whisenhunt's decision has...

Kevin Kolb looking better in practice than John Skelton

Getty According to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic, quarterback Kevin Kolb has looked better in practice than John Skelton, but not by a lot. “From my perspective, one of the difficulties for coaches in evaluating the quarterback situation are some of the poor practice performances by John Skelton. He plays better in games, no question. And he wasn’t bad in every practice...

Cards shuffling pieces to solve O-line puzzle

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Maybe you see the Cardinals offensive-line shuffle as a modified version of the shell game -- a frantic attempt to hide the weakness and inexperience at the tackle position in the wake of Levi Browns season-ending triceps injury. Veteran Jeremy Bridges sees a more competitive game. Its like playing musical chairs, Bridges said. Well see where we land when the music...

Leach ready for alma mater BYU in 1st game back

Mike Leach has rejuvenated Washington State's football program - and produced some restless nights for opponents - all before he's even coached a game. A Brigham Young defensive assistant acknowledged as much as he prepared for Leach's Air Raid attack in Thursday night's opener in Provo. BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall is familiar with the Air Raid: He was New Mexico...

NFL Comparison: Larry Fitzgerald vs Calvin Johnson! Who Is Better?

Larry Fitzgerald or Calvin Johnson? If you were asked this question, it would be extremely tough to give an answer. Both wide receivers are elite. Both have the determination. And both have the hands. These two guys are NFL players you would want on your team and are arguably the two best receivers in the league right now. Coming out of Pittsburgh University, Larry Fitzgerald got...

Kolb, Skelton watch as Broncos beat Cardinals

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- While Peyton Manning watched, Denver's reserves pulled out a wild one in the desert. Manning and the rest of the Broncos' starters took the fourth game of the preseason off, and Denver got a 44-yard field goal from Matt Prater as the game ended to beat the Arizona Cardinals 16-13 on Thursday night. Omar Bolden, a fourth-round draft pick from nearby...

Bassett-hound faces draw Leach ire

THIS IS GOING to take time. That much is apparent after Washington State struggled to gain any consistency on offense and had no answer for Brigham Young’s first-half hurry-up scheme during Thursday’s 30-6 loss to open coach Mike Leach’s era in Provo, Utah.

New Series: Bold Prediction #6 – QB John Skelton Saves the Day for Larry Fitzgerald

Fordham's John Skelton appears to have the upper hand on the overpaid Kevin Kolb but the Cards have yet to announce a week 1 starter. Some owners might knock perennial All-Pro WR Larry Fitzgerald down their draft baords concerns at QB but that would be a mistake especially if John Skelton ends up under center as most expect will be the case.
