Found July 18, 2012 on Boston Sports Media Watch:
Last winter, I had interviewed Neil Hornsby, founder of Pro Football Focus for a piece with Patriots Football Weekly. That column never ran. Here is the raw material from the session I did with Hornsby: First, PFF has become really big in Boston. Just about all of the major outlets here have used statistics or analysis from PFF regularly this season. Is this indicative of all NFL markets, or has Boston been a little quicker to grab onto your information? Are you bigger in some markets than others? Lots of people use our information but it is more used in certain areas. I would guess the other markets where we have better traction are New York, Chicago, Buffalo, Green Bay, Miami and Philadelphia. Boston is probably towards the top end of those areas. What makes PFF different from other “statistic” sites, such as Football Outsiders and Cold Hard Football Facts? (Both Boston-area based, coincidentally) I guess it’s the sheer amount of data we collect. We work with over a quarter of the...

Herm Edwards rocks Belichick hoodie for bit

Many NFL coaches have done their best to imitate Bill Belichick's the coaching style, but former head coach Herm Edwards went the extra step and attempted a full Belichick impression, hoodie and all. As part of his recurring SportsCenter pep talk segment Edwards has been doing as we approach the start of NFL camps, Edwards tackled the Patriots on Wednesday. "As we begin...

Brandon Lloyd is impressed by Bill Belichick’s variety of cutoff outfits

Having played for one of the worst teams in the NFL last season, Brandon Lloyd is likely going to be impressed by a lot of things the defending AFC champion Patriots do. He gets to catch passes from Tom Brady and play alongside All-Stars like Wes Welker, who should help soften the defense for Lloyd to get down field. In addition, Lloyd gets to play under Bill Belichick and admire...

2012 New England Patriots Offense: Weak Off-Season???

The 2012 Patriots off-season featured a lot of depth-building and some key additions that could bring new dimensions to an already excellent offense. There were also changes on defense that underlined a different philosophy of player acquisition and the team made some underplayed changes to the coaching staff.   After five months of work to improve the team, here is the first of...

The timeline of the Summer of Gronk

The Patriots have told Rob Gronkowski to keep his shirt on for the foreseeable future The “Summer of Gronk” is coming to an end, a mandate by the Patriots to get him to focus on football as the season gets closer. Patriots tight-end Rob Gronkowski has been everywhere. The bigger question has become what hasn’t Rob Gronkowski has done this summer. To recap: Got on the cover...

Darling To Dud – Rob Gronkowski Won’t Return Draft Day Value

I won’t have Rob Gronkowski on many of my fantasy teams this year.  It’s not that I don’t like the New England Patriots tight end – he was a cornerstone of more than a few 2011 championship rosters – but this year his price tag is too rich for my blood. Last year you could get Gronk [...]

Wes Welker and becoming numb to how the Patriots conduct business

Wes Welker and the New England Patriots could not come to an agreement on a contract by Monday’s 4 PM deadline The only two members of the New England Patriots organization that will never leave until they retire are Bill Belichick and Tom Brady. The Patriots proved this again on Monday afternoon. Monday was the day that a deal with franchise tagged player Wes Welker was supposed...

Report: Patriots to Host Tight End Visanthe Shiancoe for Free-Agent Visit

There's something about the Patriots and tight ends this offseason. The Patriots will host veteran tight end Visanthe Shiancoe for a free-agent visit on Thursday, according to NFL Network's Steve Wyche. While Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez are firmly implanted as New England's top two at the position, the Pats have sought depth, and Daniel Fells could find himself...

2012 AFC East Outlook

Division Champion:  New England Patriots This should come as no surprise to anyone who has watched the NFL over the past ten years because the Patriots seem to always find to contend for the division and usually win it. 2012 will be no different with the addition of a new target for Tom Brady in Brandon Lloyd and two defensive first round draft picks in Chandler Jones and Dont...
