Miami Dolphins punter Brandon Fields has agreed to a four-year contract extension.
Agent Ian Greengross confirmed the deal Saturday. It is worth $13 million and includes $3.3 million in guaranteed money.
Fields' contract was set to expire after the 2012 season. The extension will put him under contract through 2016.
The 2007 seventh-round pick out of Michigan State is coming off his best NFL season. He set single-season franchise records with a 48.8-yard average and a net of 41.4 yards.
He was third in the NFL in punting average in 2011, behind only San Francisco's Andy Lee (50.9) and Oakland's Shane Lechler (50.8).
The only player on the Dolphins roster with a longer tenure is long snapper John Denney, who joined Miami as a rookie free agent in 2005.

This morning, the Miami Dolphins held an intra-squad scrimmage and their first round pick, Ryan Tannehill, didn’t disappoint. Well, it wasn’t so much of a scrimmage because there really wasn’t a winner and a loser an I’m pretty sure no score was kept. However, the Dolphins rookie QB looked like he belonged. This was essentially [...]
According to Ben Volin of The Palm Beach Post, Miami Dolphins cornerback Vontae Davis may be in danger of losing his starting spot.
“Three-year starter Sean Smith has taken virtually every snap with the starting defense, but his running mate, Vontae Davis, seems to have lost his grip on the other starting spot, at least temporarily. Instead, it has been free agent...
The defense had the upper hand in the Miami Dolphins scrimmage Saturday morning yet rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill still managed to impress.
The eighth overall pick in the 2012 draft directed the only touchdown drive on the six possessions that started at the offense's 30-yard line. The touchdown came on a 26-yard pass that showcased Tannehill's athleticism.

Matt Moore is another one of those average or below average quarterbacks in the league.
He led the Miami Dolphins last year to another disappointing season, finishing with a 6-10 record, ending up in 3rd place in the AFC East. Matt’s stats were very poor as well, throwing 9 interceptions, having 9 fumbles, and a rating of 87.1. His completion percentage was just ok, sitting at...

The Dolphins are frequently considered one of the worst teams in the league, but they had a solid season last year. They finished 6-10, which isn’t great, but they had a Pythagorean Expectation of 8.5 wins, which ranked 14th in the NFL and a DVOA that ranked 18th. They went 6-6 once they switched quarterbacks to Matt Moore, outscoring opponents 260 to 209, which translates...
