SAN DIEGO -- Antoine Cason is heading into the most important season of his young professional career. The Chargers traded cornerback Antonio Cromartie in the offseason and need Cason to become the star they expected him to be when they drafted the Arizona product in the first round of the 2008 NFL draft. He played nickel back as a rookie but lost his position to Steve Gregory in 2009 despite collecting two interceptions early in the season. Cason's playing time diminished significantly from there, but his confidence never waned. Apparently, the Chargers believe in him, too. When they traded Cromartie, they installed Cason as the heir apparent to his starting spot. While he had to fight for playing time in his first two seasons, Cason now is expected to play most every snap. And he says he’s ready for it.
