The San Francisco 49ers flirted with a future Hall of Fame quarterback last week as they were in the chase for QB Peyton Manning. Ultimately, the 49ers missed out on Manning and in their actions, bruised the ego of one Alex Smith. Smith reportedly was looking to change agents on Saturday night, being represented by the same agent as Peyton Manning, Tom Condon. Alex Smith then embarked on a free agent interview tour, first heading to Miami. The job in Seattle was filled before Smith could arrive.
Damaged ego or not, Alex Smith should swallow his pride and return to the San Francisco 49ers, signing the offer which the franchise has reportedly made to him. Any leverage that Smith would hoped to have gained while in discussions with the Miami Dolphins is now greatly diminished after the Dolphins signed veteran David Garrard on Monday night. Even if Miami still makes an offer to Smith, a move which could be possible, does Smith really want to join that circus? A new head coa...
BEST OF MAXIM
With the 49ers having emerged as the "mystery" team interested in Peyton Manning, free agent Alex Smith has reportedly decided to explore his options.
It looks like the San Francisco 49ers sweetened the contract offer they initially made to quarterback Alex Smith. The deal that had been on the table was for three-years $24 million.
According to the Associated Press, Smith’s new contract could pay him up to $33 million. I wonder if the 49ers felt bad about hurting Smith’s feelings in their pursuit for Peyton Manning.
WORK OUT THE DETAILS
Reports out of Miami indicate that the team and Alex Smith are currently in the process of negotiating a contract with terms somewhere in the range of $8 million per season.

It was a rocky road for a couple of weeks, but the San Francisco 49ers resigned free-agent quarterback Alex Smith to a three-year deal to stay with the team.

Re-signing Alex Smith may very well have been Plan B for the 49ers, but San Francisco made sure it didn't have to turn to a Plan C. Smith has agreed to a new contract to stay with the 49ers, according to ESPN's John Clayton. The deal will pay the quarterback an average of roughly $8 million annually, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen. Smith, who was a free agent, had...

If I’m Alex Smith I tell the 49ers to eat a…. Oh, you didn’t get Peyton Manning so now it’s cool if I come back. This guy has been put through so much sh$t in this organization I’d seriously bail and sign somewhere else. But then again, I have no pride and would probably just take the money from the 49ers like...
Is it far-fetched to believe that the reason Alex Smith is visiting other teams because he has inside info on Peyton Manning signing with the 49ers? I think not it makes perfect sense. Alex and Peyton share a common bond, the same agent. I believe it is not a coincidence that less then 24 hrs after Peyton concludes his workouts and it is announced that there is a decision lurking...
((HT: ESPN))According to the four-letter, Peyton Manning is heading to Denver- barring something going going kerflooie in contract negotiations with agent Tom Condon. This way, Alex Smith (another Condon client) could stay with his new BFF, 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh. And it also may mean the end of Tebow-Mania in Denver...Much to the dismay of all those jersey-wearing Maniacs...
After Peyton Manning chose the Denver Broncos and Alex Smith showing strong interest in the Dolphins, I came across this tweet from Vince Young. Apparently his sports management team tweeted that the Dolphins might be interested in Young, to which Vince responded or the 49ers.
“@DeniseWhite_EAG: How about @VinceYoung to the Dolphins? I hear rumblings? Would he be a good fit for...
