While the rest of the league was concentrating on the NFL Scouting Combine, the New England Patriots were busy locking up their Hall of Fame quarterback to a "contract for life."
SI.com's Peter King reports the Patriots have agreed to a three-year extension that will keep Tom Brady under contract through the 2017 when he'll be 40.
What's noteworthy about Brady's new deal is that he stands to collect just $27 million over the three years, which is essentially half of his market value. It's the second time in Brady's career that he has left a stack of money on the bargaining table to give the Patriots a competitive advantage.
Brady's extension creates "well over" $30 million in cap room next two years, a team source told NFL.com's Albert Breer, and over $20 million this year alone.

Monday afternoon was pretty disgusting on Twitter. Members of the media and New England Patriots fans were fawning over the news that Peter King broke about Tom Brady’s new extension with the organization. It painted Brady as the most altruistic player in the history of the NFL. Why? Because the initial numbers released said “3 years for $27 million.” If that was a the actual...

The extension will pay Brady a $3 milion signing bonus immediately, in addition to salaries of $7 million in 2015, $8 million in 2016 and $9 million in 2017. Brady told Sports Illustrated five years ago he wanted to play until he was 40, at least, and this will accomplish that. He...

I am very pleased with some news I came across today! Tom Brady and the New England Patriots have agreed to a 3-year extension on his contract through 2017! Surprisingly, it’s only for $27 million (yes, it does feel weird to say “ONLY $27 million”) which is much less than I [...]
ATLANTA As the debate rages as to whether Tom Brady is selfless for signing a new contract for less than market value or whether Brady managed to enrich himself in the process, one thing seems certain: The deal did create cap room for the New England Patriots.
As reported by Sports Illustrated's Peter King, the deal will save the Patriots 15 million in cap relief over the next...
According to the Boston Herald, the New England Patriots and wide receiver Wes Welker are discussing a possible contract extension.
These discussions were held independent of Tom Brady‘s contract extension. However, Brady’s new deal has freed up $15 million in cap room over the next two seasons, which gives Welker and the Pats a little more room to work with.
It’s still unclear...
Tom Brady‘s hometown discount will be remembered in New England for years to come. While it’s clear what this restructured extension means for the Patriots, it also means a whole lot more for other quarterbacks in the NFL — namely embarrassment, according to folks in Patriots country. Just how does Brady stack up with the league’s highest-paid QBs? Check out the list below...
Ian Rapoport of NFL.com writes that the Patriots could target a “big receiver on the outside” during free agency now that they’ve freed up some extra cap room by restructuring Tom Brady‘s contract.
Rapoport specifically mentions that wide receivers Dwayne Bowe and Mike Wallace could both be in consideration. Rapoport adds that Bill Belichick has offered consistent...
Manti Te’o posted a 4.81 40 time and weighed in at a less-than-expected 241 lbs at the combine. That’s okay. Being slow isn’t that much of a liability trying to defend the read-option, right? I’m sure two more months of Peter King talking him up will convince the Bengals to take Te’o at 21. The Ravens also look very impressed.
People are still wondering aloud if Te’o...
