Rich Cimini of ESPN New York takes a look at the Jets quarterback position now that the offseason is about to begin.
Cimini writes that the Jets are likely to go with a “short-term fix” while bringing in a young quarterback to develop in the coming years. He lists Tarvaris Jackson, Matt Flynn, Matt Moore and Alex Smith as potential options for the Jets, but admits that Smith is most likely “too rich for the Jets’ blood.“
Their current group of quarterbacks is largely underwhelming. Mark Sanchez is bascially guaranteed to be back after he was handed five-year, $58.25 million contract to make up for the Jets pursuit of Peyton Manning last year. Tim Tebow will be let go if they’re unable to find a trade partner and Cimini mentions that “it could be curtains for [Greg] McElroy” if they draft a quarterback this year.
With limited cap space to work with, it seems very likely that the Jets will have to find a solution in this year’s draft. Sanchez has a decent shot at being the starter
