On Thursday, the Houston Texans announced the resigning of free agent safety Quintin Demps to a contract.  The terms of the contract were not released. Demps provided some stability to the Texans’ defense in 2011 after starter Danieal Manning went down with a leg injury that sidelined him. Demps was released after training camp but was resigned in week 8 and made an immediate impact.  He had 22 tackles, 2 interceptions and 4 pass deflections in 9 games last season. Demps also adds value in the return game where he had 5 returns for 33.8 yard average.

Defensive coordinator Wade Phillips said this of Demps after releasing him after camp,

“We made a mistake letting him go in the first place.”

The University of Texas-El Paso alum was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2008 NFL draft in the 4th round (117th overall) and after an impressive rookie season Demps could never break the starting lineup for the Eagles. The Texans brought Demps to Houston during the 2010 season to fill a roster spot on an injury-riddled roster but, with good production in a limited basis for the Texans in 2011, he has found a home heading into the 2012 season.
