Raheem Morris is optimistic about the CBA.
Raheem Morris has had little to distract him from the work of evaluating talent for the upcoming NFL Draft. With NFL labor negotiations currently ongoing, free agency and all player transactions are on hold, leaving little for Morris to do with his time beside attend Tampa Bay Rays spring training games and scout players for the draft with GM Mark Dominik and the rest of the Bucs front office. In a way, it’s a simpler time for Morris. But not one he’s looking forward to embracing long-term. Morris is still optimistic a CBA will get done and football will go ahead as planned.
“Of course we are (hopeful),” Morris said. “It’s a great game and we all want to see it.
“As you guys know for me, I’m more of a positive person than that. I’m always positive. It’s never doom and gloom here. For me, it’s all about what’s your next goal, what you’ve got to do next and how you’re going to go about your business. That’s where we are right now … We’ll just have to wait and see.”
Earlier today, Morris and the Bucs staff took a break to attend a Rays game. Morris and Rays skipper Joe Maddon have an increasingly-publicized friendship that gives Tampa sports fans the bay-area over a bit of a proverbial sports hard-on. Tomorrow it will be back to the business of scouting and planning for the draft, which given the last two drafts under the current regime should give Bucs even more reason to look forward to the 2011 season coach Morris feels confident will still happen. I will say this, giving Dominik and Morris even more time and allowing their undivided attention to be given to the draft is not good news for the NFC South.
