Oakland Raiders defensive end Jack Crawford received an early lesson on the rigors of the NFL. Crawford who was drafted with the 158th pick in the 5th round of the 2012 NFL Draft, came back to his room during the 2012 training camp and found his roommates bags packed and at that he remembered the advice his bunk mate had given him. “You need to work hard in this business because tomorrow is never promised,” the 24-year-old Crawford said, via Josh Friedman of the Courier-Post. “It was a pretty eye-opening experience,” Crawford said of his roommate being released. “This is pretty humbling. It gives you the sense that it’s the nature of the business and it’s competitive and there’s no real job security. … You got to earn everything every day.” “You can’t go out there and make mistakes cause it’s your job on the line,” he said. “It’s not like college when you’re on scholarship.” “You have to take care of your body,” Crawford said. “You just got to try and get on the field as soon as possible, and that was a challenge for me because I injured my foot a couple times last year. I’m feeling good now.”
