Raiders Free Agents: CB Amik Robertson

The Las Vegas Raiders have a defensive backfield comprised almost entirely of players in the National Football League for four seasons or less. Most of those players who the Raiders drafted have played most of their career, or the best football of their careers, with the Raiders.

Cornerback Amik Robertson has steadily grown into a dependable, starting-caliber player for the Raiders. He is coming off the best season of his career, totaling 50 tackles, of which 38 were solo tackles. He added a sack and two crucial interceptions on the season. One of which sealed a victory for the Raiders at home this season.

Robertson had his ups and downs like many young players, but he certainly had more ups than downs. Robertson played in roughly 60 percent of the team's defensive snaps and another 15 percent of the team's special teams snaps.

Robertson proved his value multiple times throughout the season and was a vital part of a defense that played the best football of any Raiders defense in recent memory. Robertson still has room to grow and become an essential veteran presence for the Silver and Black moving forward.

While there are many moving parts in what the Raiders will do with their coaching staff and roster, certain moves should happen regardless of what they decide. Re-signing Robertson is one of those things. While the emergence of Jack Jones has bolstered the Raiders' defensive backfield, it has not made Robertson expendable by any means.

The Raiders should bring back Robertson and let him and Jones battle for the starting position next season. No matter what happens, Robertson is one of the more critical free agents the Raiders should prioritize this offseason. He has proven he can start for the Raiders moving forward, and should he lose a potential position battle with Jones, Robertson would be one of the better reserve corners in the NFL.

It would be a shocking move if the Raiders allowed Robertson to walk in free agency, as he would indeed have many suitors for his services, some of whom would more than likely be division opponents.
