Somebody obviously heard Lane Kiffin's S.O.S call for new players. One day after he openly complained about the lack of roster additions, the Raiders released little-used linebacker Malik Jackson and signed former Stanford cornerback Nick Sanchez on Tuesday, a team source said. Sanchez, an undrafted rookie free agent, is expected to practice in today's 3-5 p.m. training camp session in Napa. Jackson became expendable when the Raiders signed Adam Archuleta and inserted him into the strongside linebacker competition. The Raiders gave Sanchez a tryout during their rookie minicamp in May but did not sign him. While Sanchez won't be starting for the Raiders, his signing accomplishes several things: he's a healthy body who can share reps with a beat-up secondary, and it lets non-performers like Jackson know they can't expect a free ride to roster-cut day.
