The Oakland Raiders officially announced the hiring of Dennis Allen as their new head coach Friday. Allen, who spent last season as the defensive coordinator of the Denver Broncos, will be formally introduced at a press conference Monday. He succeeds Hue Jackson, who was fired on Jan. 10 after one season on the job. Allen had spent five years coaching with New Orleans prior to taking the job in Denver. Allen helped the Broncos improve upon a porous defense en route to securing the AFC West title. Denver allowed an NFL-worst 29.4 points in 2010 before shaving five full points off that total in 2011. Under Allen's watch, the Broncos increased their sacks total from 23 to 41. The move to dismiss Jackson came less than a week after Oakland hired Green Bay Packers director of football operations Reggie McKenzie as its new general manager.
