Darren McFadden has been hurt in each of his five NFL seasons. That’s why backup running backs are so vital to the Raiders offense. Rashad Jennings was brought in to fill that role and he certainly looks the part. The 6-foot-1 231-pound veteran has a powerful rushing style that fits a revamped Raiders blocking scheme based on gap creation and control. Jennings has impressed in the early going and will get plenty of reps this preseason time he’ll use to carve out a larger role. “Rashad’s a big back we want Rashad to play like a big back” Raiders coach Dennis Allen said. “Going into the preseason we’ll see if he can be that big physical presence that we expect him to be.” Positive results might earn him the title of short-yardage back which will decrease punishment taken by McFadden over the course of the season. Jennings doesn't want to pigeonhole himself just yet. Jennings hopes the running game is so effective that McFadden can’t take all the carries given out. That happe...

Matt McGloin: The Scrappy Kid Who Could Make the Oakland Raiders Roster

Undrafted rookie quarterback Matt McGloin has defied expectations his whole life, so it is no surprise that he is pushing for a roster spot during training camp. After a stellar high school career, McGloin was not offered a single college football scholarship so he decided to walk-on to Penn State to prove critics wrong. By the end of his senior year with the Nittany Lions, McGloin...

Scouting the QBs at Oakland Raiders training camp

I spent some time really focusing on the QBs in practice, today. As explained by Vic Tafur, here, the Raiders definitely have Flynn and Pryor 1 and 2 and it shows in camp. The two alternated consistently, today, with Flynn getting a break with the ones, at times, and Pryor coming in. Neither McGloin nor Wilson got many snaps. Matt Flynn had a decent but unspectacular day and...

Tracy Porter putting jersey number snub behind him

Oakland Raiders cornerback Tracy Porter was none too pleased that the jersey number that was already his was snatched away and given to Charles Woodson. He cried foul on Twitter when it went down, but now he's softening his stance in a non-Twitter environment, writes Kevin Patra of NFL.com. "The jersey situation is what it is," Porter said, via CSNBayArea.com. ...

Raiders still injured, defense rules over offense and other training camp day 7 notes

Not only were the Raiders back in pads but today was also a “competition day”, per head coach Dennis Allen. The competition may have low stakes – which unit, offense or defense, gets to wear the silver colored jerseys instead of the hotter black ones – but it is a point of pride amongst the players and the team sessions were a lot more active today. Dennis Allen didn’t...
