Found April 09, 2013 on Waiting For Next Year:
The connections between the Raiders and Browns seem to keep getting stronger, or at least more strongly anecdotal. First the report that the Raiders badly wanted to keep Desmond Bryant, whom the Browns signed in free agency. Now, Pro Football Talk is reporting that the Raiders have signed former Browns safety Usama Young. Details of the deal aren’t available yet. Darin Gantt of PFT makes the connection that Usama Young will rejoin his former Saints secondary coach Dennis Allen, now with the Raiders. So, even if the money is nowhere close to being equal, I’ll still take the Desmond Bryant for Usama Young swap. Young was expected to nail down a starting spot for the Cleveland Browns, but ultimately couldn’t stay healthy for parts of his two years with the team. Young originally signed a 3-year deal with the Browns for $5.9 million. He earned $1.7 million in 2011 and $1.8 million in 2012 before the Browns decided to save the approximately $2.25 million in cap space by cutting him loose. Cleveland Browns NFL Draft Cap Unveiled

Sports has become so much about fashion now-a-days. You can’t go long without your favorite athletes tweeting pics of shoes or outfits to go out on the town. Is it any wonder that NFL teams spend so much time and effort around their merchandise? The Browns will certainly look to sell plenty of it on draft weekend with their draft hat. Thanks to Nate Ulrich we now have an idea of...

NFL News: Former Browns tight end Alex Smith to visit Bengals

Adam Caplan reports that the Bengals are on the trail of former Cleveland Browns tight end Alex Smith. Veteran FB/TE Alex Smith’s visit with the Bengals is scheduled for today. — Adam Caplan (@caplannfl) April 10, 2013 The summation for Alex Smith’s time in Cleveland for me is probably that he was better than I ever thought he would be. Nobody will ever forget the time the...

Browns to work out Geno Smith on Saturday

The Cleveland Browns will travel down to Miami on Saturday to privately work out West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith, according to a league source, reports Mary Kay Cabot of The Plain Dealer. Head coach Rob Chudzinski and others will be in attendance as they try to narrow down their choices for the number six pick in the NFL Draft, which starts on April 25th. All signs point...

Browns Senior Editor Vic Carucci says, “It’s quarterbacks who make receivers.” Has he ever seen the Browns play?

Each week, Vic Carucci, does a column on the Cleveland Browns, for the official site of the Cleveland Browns. I found it humorous this week when I read what he wrote about. Carucci is claiming, it is the quarterback that makes the receiver. To some degree, I agree with that.  I can recall some great NFL receivers, that helped make their quarterbacks too. Guys like the great Lynn...

As the highest-paid player on the Browns, is Joe Thomas’ value diminishing?

Joe Thomas is the poster boy. Sure, he is the stalwart left tackle who has yet to miss a game since being drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2007. He has has been named to the NFL’s All-Pro team five times and has made six trips to the Pro Bowl. Thomas is workmanlike—many recall the fishing trip he opted to take instead of the glitz and glamor of New York on draft day. He says...

Brooklyn Browns Backers Are Thriving

Pulitzer Committee take note of this arresting composition by @bryanjoiner, captured last evening outside of the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York just before the Sixers and Nets tipped off. Between the plane soaring above the arena and the Brady Quinn jersey at bottom, the whole circle of life is pretty much here. For a limited edition original print, contact @bryanjoiner...

Matt Barkley visiting the Bills, Browns

USC quarterback Matt Barkley announced on Twitter that he’s off to visit with both the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills. Heading off to Cleveland and Buffalo this morning for team visits — Matthew Barkley (@MattBarkley) April 8, 2013 I can’t imagine either team drafting Barkley in the first round, but you never know.  I believe he’ll go in the late first or early second...

Former Bills WR David Nelson reached agreement on a one-year deal with the Cleveland Browns. — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) April 8, 2013 Nelson went down early in the 2012 season with a season-ending injury.  He’ll be a nice addition for the Browns as long as he can...

David Nelson Joins Cleveland Browns On One-Year Deal

With the NFL Draft coming up in a few weeks, free agency signings have come to a crawl, but Monday could be known as the day that the Cleveland Browns upgraded their receiving group relatively cheap, as they only had to offer David Nelson, formerly of the Buffalo Bills, a one-year deal. After two promising seasons to start his career, last season was supposed to be a break out year...

Raiders sign safety Usama Young

It’s been a busy day on defense for the Raiders. In addition to announcing deals with Mike Jenkins and Andre Carter, the team also agreed to a deal with free agent safety Usama Young. Young, who turns 28 next month, has seven career interceptions, 22 passes defended and 152 tackles in 81 career games. He spent the last two seasons with the Browns, with whom he had a career-high...

Raiders To Bring In QB Seneca Wallace For A Visit

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that free agent QB Seneca Wallace will travel to Oakland for a visit with the Raiders after meeting with the Seahawks on Monday. Wallace is in consideration for the Seahawks backup quarterback job, but it appears as though the competition is really between Matt Leinart and Brady Quinn, although Tyler Thigpen has a shot at the job as well. Wallace...
