The Sporting Blog:
In each of the Raiders two victories this year, they've put up 13 points. With an offense so parlous, the key to victory is to eke out a few scores while winning a war of attrition with their defense. It's usually ineffective, but it worked yesterday in a notable upset at home over the Eagles. It also helps that Donovan McNabb possesses a keen awareness for situational timeouts.
To the casual fan, however this formula doesn't make for fascinating football. So the announcers covering the game have to make due with any available distractions to drum up some excitement for the audience. Luckily that took the form of a pigeon that flew down the field in formation with the Raiders' kickoff coverage team.
Nice for announcers Tim Ryan and Sam Rosen to run with a small moment of levity in an otherwise grueling game. And kudos to the pigeon for having enough sense to hover near the action but not get close enough where it would join the bird that was nailed by a Randy John...
