Spencer and Barnes to miss time; Raiders work out 2 CBs and Andre Carter
For the second straight week, not only the Oakland Raiders came away with a loss, but also with important additions to the injury report. Right tackle Khalif Barnes and cornerback Shawntae Spencer, both starters, were not able to finish the game against Miami. Barnes has a groin injury and Spencer, a right ankle sprain. According [...]
Oakland Raiders OC Greg Knapp stresses patience with zone blocking scheme
When offensive coordinator Greg Knapp was hired this season, he brought with him a zone blocking rushing scheme. Through the first two games, the Raiders have struggled to move the ball on the ground. However, Knapp feels patience is needed to let the players and scheme develop.
“Let’s keep things in perspective for a second, here,” Knapp said. “We’ve played two games...
Raiders setting new marks for ineptitude
Oakland, CA. Fans who follow the Oakland Raiders had to feel a sense of optimism heading into the 2012 season. For the first time in many years, the QB situation seemed to be solidified, with the mid-season signing of Carson Palmer last season. The team finished 2011 at 8-8, and showed at times they could compete at a fairly high level. The offense was bringing back stud running...
Oakland Raiders: Week 3 NFL Power Rankings (#31)
Last week: 31 (+0)
Record: 0-2
I called this team overrated before the season and said they were one of the worst teams in the league and an ugly 35-13 loss to the Dolphins is making that look pretty good. The new regime has a lot of promise, but they inherited a mess, an 8 win team (with a Pythagorean Expectation of 6 wins for stat nerds) that was above the cap and didn’t have...
Fantasy Football Drafter’s Remorse: Time To Bench Chris Johnson
Like many other fellow fantasy owners out there I too drafted Chris Johnson and have since second-guessed that pick. On most draft boards Johnson was a top 5 back, who was coming off a preseason that made everyone believe he was back in 2010 form when he ran for 1,364 yards and 11 touchdowns. Unfortunately that hasn’t been the case thus far in 2012, and Johnson has been putting...
State of the AFC West: Week 2 review, Week 3 Preview
Here we are again, Raider Nation. It was another agonizing week and another embarrassing loss for the Oakland Raiders. The only positive to take away from this week is that the Raiders were not the only AFC West team to lose in week 2, nor are they the only winless team in the division. Let’s [...]
Raiders LB Rolando McClain, CB Coye Francies Return To Practice
Linebacker Rolando McClain is back at practice this morning, so he has passed the necessary concussion tests, which is a good sign for his availability Sunday against the Steelers. Cornerback Coye Francies, who was also held out yesterday with a concussion, is back in as well.
Cornerback Shawntae Spencer (foot) and right tackle Khalif Barnes (groin) were not on the practice field...
Raiders Bring In 6 Players For Workouts
The Oakland Raiders, trying to address their needs after an 0-2 start, had six players in for workouts Tuesday, Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
As reported yesterday, former Cal defensive end Andre Carter, who had 10 sacks last season for the Patriots, was back in for a second look.
Cornerbacks Darius Butler, Cletis Gordon, Antwaun Molden and Kevin Thomas also...
Pittsburgh Steelers at Oakland Raiders: Week 3 NFL Pick
Oakland Raiders (0-2) at Pittsburgh Steelers (1-1)
Before the season, I made a list of underrated and overrated teams, with the intent of betting them (or against them) until the odds makers caught up and I was proven wrong. This approach has worked well for me because I’m 10-4-2 ATS on games involving those teams. One thing I was dead on about was that the Raiders would be one...
Week 2 Fantasy Football Recap: Oakland Raiders vs. Miami Dolphins
Oakland Raiders – 13, Miami Dolphins – 35It certainly looks like the Raiders are going to be behind a lot, which means a lot of garbage time yards and scores for Carson Palmer (380 total yards, 1 TD, 1 INT). He’s going to be worth starting at some point, and very well could be a top 15 QB this year in terms of fantasy stats.Like Weeden and Luck, Ryan Tannehill (214 yards...
Roethlisberger & Seymour Have Laughed Off 2010 Punch
The last time that the Pittsburgh Steelers faced the Oakland Raiders they handled them easily at Heinz Field. The 35-3 win was not without incident though as Raiders defensive end Richard Seymour was ejected for an open-handed punch to the face of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger just seconds after he threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders with just under...
Raiders Running Backs Are More Of Threat Out Of The Backfield Than In It
I have pointed out the problems that the Pittsburgh Steelers have had running the ball on first and second down through their first two games of the 2012 season, but their opponent in week 3, the Oakland Raiders, have had their problems as well on the early run downs.
So far against the San Diego Chargers and the Miami Dolphins the Raiders running backs have 29 carries on first...
Final Week 2 Observations
The mood certainly is different on the off day this week after the Dolphins' impressive 35-13 victory over the Oakland Raiders in Sunday's home opener at Sun Life Stadium. Before the Dolphins begin their preparations for Sunday's game against the Jets, let's take one final look at the Oakland game.
Raiders Friday Injury Report – Barnes & Spencer Out – McClain Questionable
The Friday injury report for the Oakland Raiders is now out and it shows that tackle Khalif Barnes (groin) and cornerback Shawntae Spencer (foot) both sat out on Friday as expected and are listed as out for the game Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Second-year tackle Willie Smith reportedly has taken the majority of reps in place of Barnes during practice with Tony Bergstrom...
Raiders CB Shawntae Spencer On Crutches After Spraining Right Foot
In their opener against San Diego, the Raiders lost starting left cornerback Ron Bartell for at least seven games to a broken shoulder blade.
Now they're waiting to find out exactly how long they'll be without starting right cornerback Shawntae Spencer, who sprained his right foot Sunday against Miami in the fourth quarter.
Spencer was on crutches and wore a walking boot...
