A report from Jodi Bacon of 1170 The Fan states that Raiders WR Darrius Heyward-Bey was arrested for a DUI on April 7th.

Early this morning, the San Francisco District Attorney’s office filed charges on the Seventh overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft in relation to drunk driving. CHP Spokesman Tony Tam says Heyward-Bey was driving on the lower deck of Bay Bridge at around 2:00 am when he was spotted speeding and weaving in and out of his lane. He was pulled over and given a field sobriety test, in which he failed. He was arrested, charged, and later released.

Officials said that he was very cooperative throughout the whole thing, and he is scheduled for court on May 31st. Misdemeanor citations carry a maximum six-month jail sentence, said Stephanie Ong Stillman, spokeswoman for the district attorney.

Heyward-Bey had a decent season last year in which he showed tremendous progress compared to previous seasons. Under the new regime in Oakland, this might not be the first impression that he wants with new GM Reggie McKenzie. This is exactly the kind of thing that McKenzie and Raiders Brass want to weed out to put the organization on a higher pedestal. The Raiders are going to have to make a few cuts to get under the cap comfortably, and he is due to be a $5.7 million dollar cap hit. With the way Reggie McKenzie has been making his stamp in Oakland, and this news coming out, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Heyward-Bey released in the near future. If he’s not, I hope that he improves more on what he brought to the table last year, and keeps himself out of trouble.
