The Rams completed a one for one linebacker swap today, cutting former last pick of the draft David Vobora to make room for new linebacker Ben Leber. Vobora was forced into starting roles the last two seasons by injuries and ineffectiveness, but never got consistent playing time after injury spot starts. Vobora was solid against the run when he got his reads right, but was a liability against the pass. Vobora could play all three linebacker spot, but was mostly used against the run as an outside linebacker. Vobora was not perfect in anyway, but I always thought of him as a valuable linebacker depth, but not starter quality. With the Rams adding Leber, Poppinga and Diles to their OLB corps and depth, Vobora was expendable.
However, the Rams did Vobora a big favor by cutting him so early in the preseason so that he has plenty of time to catch on with a new team.
