ST. LOUIS (AP) Steven Jackson's status is day to day after the nine-year veteran sat out his second consecutive practice Thursday with a groin injury. The same problem forced him to miss most of St. Louis' 31-28 victory over Washington on Sunday and he is a game-time decision for Sunday's game at Chicago. "I've played with worse injuries before," Jackson said, "but we still have to take it day to day." Jackson said he first felt tightness on a 20-yard run with about 12 minutes left in the first half against the Redskins. He had three more carries before exiting, finishing with 58 yards on nine carries. If he doesn't play, rookie Daryl Richardson is expected to start. Richardson, a seventh-round pick out of Abilene Christian, took Jackson's spot last Sunday and finished with 83 yards on 15 carries. He had just two carries for 20 yards in the season opener at Detroit. Coach Jeff Fisher said second-round pick Isaiah Pead might get playing time after seeing no action in the first two games. He also didn't rule out using Terrance Ganaway, a rookie from Baylor who signed with the Rams earlier this month. Fisher said the offensive approach will be the same even if Richardson gets the start instead of Jackson. "There's nothing that he can't do at this point," Fisher said. "He's a good, hard runner. He runs inside, outside and he understands protections and he showed last week he can catch out of the backfield." Jackson was pulled after what appeared to be a touchdown run about midway through the second quarter. The officials concluded he was down before crossing the goal line, but the running back came out of the pile and spiked the ball out of the end zone, drawing an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Some wondered if Fisher benched Jackson for his action because the Rams never announced an injury during the game. "I don't really pay attention to that. I'm aware of it now, almost a week ago what was said and what happened, but it's not a concern of mine," Jackson said. "Me and coach Fisher's relationship has not changed." Richardson is preparing as if he will be the starter, and said that despite an ankle injury that kept him from much of the summer and preseason work, he is prepared for the role. "It's very exciting to get my first start as an NFL player," he said. "I'm pretty pumped and happy."
