Rams defensive end Chris Long and Carolina safety Mike Mitchell got the worst of it, getting fined $15,750 for their actions in last Sunday’s Rams-Panthers contest. But they had company. All told, five players were fined six times by the NFL, with the fines totaling $55,125. Long was fined for throwing a punch during a third-quarter scuffle. “I’ll appeal it, but it is what it is,” Long said Friday. “I put myself in that situation. It’s fair but I’ll appeal it if that makes sense.’’ There were more than two dozen players on the field during a melee that lasted a couple of minutes. There was a lot of pushing and shoving, and arms flailing — call them punches or not. But Long was the player singled out. “Well, I was always that kid when I was younger — I’d get caught,” Long said, smiling. “Jumping from desk to desk or something when the teacher walked back in the room and be the last one (doing that).” Although he wasn’t penalized during the game, Mitchell’s $15,750 came
