Rams C Scott Wells suffered a fractured foot and will be placed on the "designated for return" injured reserve, head coach Jeff Fisher said Monday.

Wells started in Sunday’s loss to the Lions in his first game with St. Louis. Robert Turner replaced Wells at center. The new I.R. “designated to return” rule for players with major injuries allows Wells to return to a game after eight weeks.

After spending eight seasons with the Packers, Wells signed a four-year, $24 million contract with the Rams in March.

The Rams also lost starting OLT Rodger Saffold to a neck injury in Sunday’s game.

St. Louis Rams: 2012 Week 2 NFL Power Rankings (#12)

Last week: 12 (+0) Record: 0-1 And here’s the other half of the controversial prediction. On one hand, I nailed the Rams/Lions game. The Rams showed they were a better team than last year on both sides of the ball. On the other hand, my prediction of the Rams in the playoff only makes sense if the 49ers don’t prove me wrong. If Alex Smith improbably becomes a true franchise quarterback...

Rodger Saffold carted off field

Rams left tackle Rodger Saffold was carted off the Edward Jones Dome turf in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions after undergoing what appeared to be a neck injury. Saffold crumpled awkwardly after disengaging from Lions safety John Wendling on a long St. Louis pass. The Rams scored a touchdown on the play to take a 20-13 lead with 9:45 remaining. ...

Titus Young was benched during Rams game for head-butting Janoris Jenkins

Titus Young is a player who many have said has breakout potential this season, but that will all depend on his attitude. The second-year receiver caught only one pass for 14 yards against the Rams on Sunday, but his lack of production was due in large part to the fact that Young only played in the first half. Detroit head coach Jim Schwartz benched Young at the end of the first...

Rams Re-Sign OG Quinn Ojinnaka; C Scott Wells Headed To IR

Quinn Ojinnaka, who started all four preseason games at left guard for the Rams before being released, has re-signed with the team. Wells suffered a fractured left foot in the season opener against Detroit. Under the new "designated for return...

Rams run out of gas in the Motor City

So close and yet so far is the recurring nightmare of the St. Louis Rams, who lost a nail biter at Ford Field in Detroit on Sunday.  The Rams appeared to be on the cusp of victory against the heavily favored Detroit Lions, but eight minutes before the game was over, the Rams completely ran [...]

Rams win 58 minutes against Detroit, but lose the last two

Ultimately, the Rams' upset bid of the Detroit Lions came down to this: a third-down and five play with 2:03 on the clock, just outside the red zone, tied up 20-all. Get the first down, and the Rams can control the clock and have the last shot at putting points on the board. But before we consider what the Rams did on that play, we have to consider everything that brought...

NFL's First Female Referee Breaks Up Fake Fight Between Cortland Finnegan, Stephen Tulloch (Photo)

The NFL and NFL Referees Association have still not come to terms on a deal. But luckily for coaches, players and fans everywhere, there are replacements roaming the sidelines to keep things in order. League Admits Late-Game Clock Error In Rams/Lions Game

A late-game glitch in clock management Sunday in Detroit was costly to the Rams in their last-second 27-23 loss to the Lions. With 2 minutes 45 seconds to play, Rams quarterback Sam Bradford scrambled out of the pocket and slid feet first near the St. Louis sideline, in-bounds. A television copy of the game broadcast showed no official signal time out, yet the game clock was stopped...

Rams play Lions tough but fall 27-23 in opener

Jeff Fisher hoped his St. Louis Rams could hold Detroit's powerful offense to field goals. They did a pretty good job of that - until the final quarter. Matthew Stafford threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Kevin Smith with 10 seconds left, lifting the Lions to a 27-23 victory over the Rams on Sunday. St. Louis intercepted Stafford three times in the first half - returning one...

First Female Official Breaks Up Fake Fight In Lions Vs Rams Game

If not for the "fake fight photo," Shannon Eastin's debut as an NFL official would have gone down without note, which as anyone who's ever been a referee will tell you, is the preferred outcome. Yet Sunday's game featuring the Lions and Rams ended with a small scrum, as Rams guard Harvey Dahl pushed down Lions tackle Ndamukong Suh, while players from both...

St. Louis Rams at Detroit Lions 1st half running diary

On the opening drinve, the Lions made swiss cheese of the Rams defense, using a mixture of short passes, runs  and Ram defensive suckiness to drive inside the 20.
