Antonio Freeman was one of Brett Favre’s greatest weapons. Sure, throughout his Green Bay career there was Donald Driver, Bill Schroeder, Corey Bradford, Bubba Franks, Javon Walker, and Robert Ferguson. But it’s Freeman who is the most underrated out of all of them.

Freeman played football at Virginia Tech, he caught 93 balls for 1,534 yards and 16 touchdowns through his junior season. Green Bay selected Freeman in the 3rd round of the 1995 to play kick returner/punt returner/wide receiver. In his rookie season Freeman only had 8 catches for 106 yards and touchdown. On special teams he had 292 punting yards (long 26), 556 kick return yards (long 45), and 7 fumbles. His biggest highlight came in the playoffs against Atlanta, when he returned a 76-yard touchdown. The next year he didn’t see any return opportunities because of Desmond Howard, but did make a huge impact as a Brett Favre receiver. He led the team in receptions (56), yards (933), and was 2nd in touchdowns with ten. That team would go on to win the Super Bowl; Freeman had three receptions for 105 yards in the win.

The next season Freeman completely broke out as Favre’s favorite target on a NFC Champion team. Antonio reeled in 81 balls for 1,243 yards (77.7 Y/G) and 12 touchdowns. The following year Freeman somehow out-did himself for his best career year. With the help of Favre throwing for 4,212 yards and 31 touchdowns, Freeman had 84 receptions, 1,424 yards (league leading), and 14 touchdowns. He was almost an automatic 100-yard player that season, as he was a huge deep ball threat with a 17.0 Y/R. That year was surprisingly his only Pro Bowl season.

In 1999 he fell off a bit, but still managed to have his 3rd straight 1,000-yard season. The next season he missed 1,000 yards, but had 9 touchdowns, including this one against the Vikings in OT on Monday Night.

In 2002 Freeman left Favre to join Donovan McNabb for one season. He had 46 receptions, 600 yards, and four touchdowns before retuning to Green Bay for his final year. He was limited behind Donald Driver, Javon Walker, and Robert Furguson but more importantly was able to retire a Packer.

Freeman is 6th all-time in Green Bay Packers for most receptions with 431.
