DeAndre James (D.J) Hackett is from Fontana, CA; Fontana was founded in 1913, and continued to be a rural neighborhood until World War II when a steel mill was built by the industrialist/entrepreneur Henry J. Kaiser (same dude as Kaiser Permanente). Anyway Hackett was a big-time athlete in High School and chose to pursue his career in Football.

The 6-2 WR started out at Cal State Northridge, and as a Freshman he caught 47 balls for 728 yards and 7 touchdowns. The next season he finished with 53 receptions, 778 yards, and 10 touchdowns. Unfortunately in 2001 CSUN dropped its football program and Hackett was forced into a larger market team in the University of Colorado as a transfer. His first season as a Buff, Hackett was quiet with only 18 receptions and 4 touchdowns. However, the next season Hackett broke out. He caught 78 passes (3rd in the Big 12) for just over 1,000 yards and 7 touchdowns. He was named 3rd-Team All Big 12.

In the 2004 NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks selected D.J Hackett in the 5th round.  In his rookie season Hackett played in 5 games (starting in 3) and was able to reel in 28 receptions for 400 yards (14.3 YPC) and 2 TD’s.  The next season Hackett would set career highs in all major categories: 14 games, 5 games started, 45 receptions, 610 yards, and 4 touchdowns. Having said that you can assume the rest of his career doesn’t seem so bright, and you’d be correct. The next season Hackett was on pace for a legit season with 32 receptions with 384 yards and 3 touchdowns through 6 games, but his season was cut short due to injury. The next year the Carolina Panthers signed him to a two-year $3.5 mil contract, but Hackett was only able to play in 9 games before getting injured again. Consequently he was released the next year. Hackett was then signed to the Redskins, but they released him too.

I wonder what his stats would have been his Senior year of CSUN, 80 receptions 1,500 yards 15 touchdowns?
