James Mungro went to the best school ever, of course I’m describing Syracuse University. In his senior year Mungro rushed for 1170 yards and 14
touchdowns. Although he was a beast in the Big East, and was named Insight.com Bowl and Music City Bowl’s Offensive Player of the Game, he did not get picked in the 2002 Draft. Luckily for Mungro and the NFL, the Detroit Lions signed him…but they cut him….and he was signed by the Indianapolis Colts
In 2002 he was the backup for Edgerrin James, and of course Edge got hurt. Mungro in his rookie season had 97 rushing attempts for 336 yards and 8 touchdowns. The next season Dominic Rhodes was added to the mix, Mungro became the 3rd string back. He only had 24 attempts for 60 yards but had 2 touchdowns. In 2004 his carries reduced to 5 but he caught 3 touchdowns (our of 49) from Peyton out of the backfield. In 2005 his carries increased back up to 7. James Mungro tore his ACL and wasn’t able to get back on track.
Now another Syracuse running back is in a similar position to James Mungro. Hopefully Delone Carter can have a longer and more prosperous career than Mungro.
