Orlando Pace is a former professional football player who played offensive tackle in the NFL for thirteen seasons. Pace was the first overall pick in the 1997 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams. He played for the Rams for twelve years from 1997 to 2008. He then went on to play for the Chicago Bears in 2009, his last NFL season. Pace started 154 consecutive games and started 165 of the 169 games he played in. Pace was named to the Pro Bowl seven times, all in consecutive seasons, and was a five-time All-Pro. In 2008, he won the Ed Block Courage Award, an award for players who show leadership, courage, inspiration and sportsmanship. Pace won Super Bowl XXXIV while he was with the Rams. He was named to the NFL 2000s All-Decade Team. Pace grew up in Sandusky, Ohio. Yes, that is where the movie “Tommy Boy” takes place. In high school he was named to the Parade magazine high school All-American team as an offensive lineman and the USA Today All-America team as a defensive lineman. An athlete all around, he also averaged 18 points as the center for his basketball team. Pace attended Ohio State University and was an All-American twice. He was only the second true freshman ever to start for the Buckeyes football team on Opening Day. Pace won the Lombardi Award, for best college lineman or linebacker, in 1995 and 1996. He is the only two-time winner of that award. He was also awarded the Outland Trophy for the best college interior lineman. He and Dave Rimington are the only three-time winners of the Outland/Lombardi category. In addition Pace came in fourth place in the Heisman Trophy voting in 1996. Pace was the cornerstone of the Rams offense for 12 years and justified his selection of first overall. -Kerr
