There is a lot of push coming from around Steelers Nation right now for Randy Fitchner to be the next offensive coordinator of the Steelers.  I am not one of those people on that list.  Not that I do not like Coach Fichtner but I want to get someone that is not on the inside.  Fichtner has been a good quarterbacks coach to Ben Roethlisberger.  The two have a great relationship.  They are really close.

That in my opinion is the problem with Fichtner becoming the Offensive Coordinator.  Roethlisberger already has a hand in the situation.  The closeness between him and Arians was one of the major problems with the offense beforehand.  We do not need that to start over again and have the same kind of offense that we already have.

Roethlisberger needs someone who will put him in his place when he is not doing what he is supposed to not someone he is going to take golfing every off day.  The control of the offense needs to go through the coach not the quarterback.  Yes Roethlisberger should have some input, he is the $100 million quarterback but Roethlisberger also needs to be able to be reigned in.  Something that did not happen under Arians.

The bad part is that I like Fichtner’s scheme.  His offense at Memphis was great.  He ran the spread and we have the guys to do what he wants to do.  He could do good things with Antonio Brown and Emmanuel Sanders in his offense.  They are the type of guys who thrived under Fichtner in Memphis.

I really am just having a hard time getting over that Arians and Fichtner were in the same room game planning and we had the most predictable offense around.  You knew where the ball was going before it was even snapped.  People who do not even follow the Steelers would watch the game with me and be like wow I can call almost every play.  The announcers of the game could tell you where the ball was going.  It was such poor play calling and such predictability that we were always held back.  That could change under Fichtner but my fear is he is to far in the forest to see the trees.
