Randy McMichael Done for the Year

A Starting Tight End Randy McMichael is done for the year as he has been placed on IR with a broken bone in his leg.A McMichael was promised a larger role in the Rams' offense by new offensive coordinator Al Saunders.A With McMichael gone, the starting role falls to backup TE Joe Klopfenstein. A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A McMichael broke his leg in the second half in the Rams week 4 loss to the Buffalo Bills.A It was not announced that he was done for the season until yesterday.A Al Saunders was going to showcase McMichael in his offense in 2008 after he was signed to a big contract in 2007, but the offense as a whole never really got off the ground and neither did McMichael.A He had a disappointing 2007, but maybe an even more disappointing 2008 after being placed on IR. A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A Joe Klopfenstein was a second round draft pick by the Rams in the 2006 NFL Draft (upcoming "Where the Rams Went Wrong" feature.) and to this point has been a disappointment.A He possesses the physical skills to be an excellent receiving tight end and has drawn comparisons to Chris Cooley.A He was very inconsistent in his rookie year, which was to be expected, and was replaced in the starting lineup by Randy McMichael in 2007.A This is "Klop's" chance to prove himself in his third year.A As long as he is put in receiving situations and not asked to block on a consistent basis (please do not ask him to block!), he should be a be a solid tight end.A
