You gotta love Media Day during Super Bowl week. The week before the Super Bowl is mayhem, but also a lot of fun. I was lucky enough to be on a business trip in Indianapolis last year, a week prior to the Super Bowl, and the town was electric. It was quite an experience. Media day is one of the highlights of Super Bowl week, but not for its hard-hitting news or great analysis and insight. It’s great for the spectacle. Is Randy Moss right about being the best wide receiver ever? (Image credit: Matthew Emmons/USA TODAY Sports) Every year media members try to bait a player into saying something stupid or get the quote of the week. Most veterans just avoid the dumb questions, proposals from women in wedding dresses, (that really happened, ask Tom Brady), and other crazy stunts media members pull to gain notoriety. The good news for us is that Randy Moss isn’t one of those people who keeps his mouth shut. Moss said yesterday to the media, per ESPN.com, “Now that I’m older, I do think I’m the greatest receiver to ever do it. I don’t really live on numbers, I really live on impact and what you’re able to do out on the field,” he said. “I really think I’m the greatest receiver to ever play this game.” Moss has 982 catches for 15,292 yards and 156 touchdowns in his 14-season career. Cris Carter had 1,101 catches for 13,899 yards and 130 touchdowns in his 16-season career. He has been commonly associated with being one of the best route-runners of all time, while Moss has relied mostly on his freakish speed and height. Moss has more touchdowns, but also played when the league shifted to a passing league. If Michael Irvin avoided injury, he could potentially be in the discussion. And, as much as I hate to admit it, Terrell Owens was quite the receiver, albeit a constant distraction. Oh, and let’s not forget about Jerry Rice, who leads the all-time lists in all of three categories with 1,549 receptions, 22,895 yards and 197 touchdown receptions over his career. If you ask me, stats don’t lie. My vote for the best WR ever is Jerry Rice. He had the perfect combination of grace and power. He hauled in passes for big yardage and punched it in the end zone. Some people say Calvin Johnson could be the best WR when all is said and done, but we will wait and see. So it’s to you, readers, I pose the question… who’s the best WR of all-time?
