Being the son of a legend makes one want to pursue the same passion. Seeing Randy Moss’ career through the lens of Thaddeus Moss probably filled his childhood with wonder which grew to be pressure at the latter stages of his teenage years. He had a lot of challenges with North Carolina State and LSU. But, he still made it to the NFL. He then tried to make an impact for the Cincinnati Bengals and Washington Commanders (formerly the Washington Football Team) but it was to no avail. Now, he has made a final decision.

Thaddeus Moss is retiring from the NFL and professional football as a whole. The tight end unveiled the decision a day before his birthday in his latest post on X.

“It is always important to know when something has reached its end. Closing circles, shutting doors, finishing chapters, it doesn’t matter what we call it; what matters is to leave in the past those moments in life that are over. Thank You #Retired,” he declared.

He always aimed to create his own persona which is far different from Randy Moss. It was not always easy for Thaddeus Moss because he started out as a tight end for North Carolina State. There was not much success for him there either. He only got to play five games and was only able to snag six receptions along with 49 receiving yards. But, this is where most programs were put on notice as he had a great skill for catching deep passes. He gave the Wolfpack an average gain of 8.2 yards whenever he was the target.

It would take him three years before he saw the field once again. But, it was all worth it. He landed with LSU and arguably had the greatest season of his playing career ever. With the help of Joe Burrow along with other receivers like Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase, he won the national championship with the Tigers.

More than the accolades, his individual output was not at all negligible. Teams who were in the running for the College Football Playoff National Championship had to employ tough coverages to prevent him from popping off. This is largely because he notched totals of 570 receiving yards on 47 receptions. Remember his skill for catching deep passes? Almost every catch he made was a guaranteed first down just like Randy Moss. He gave LSU an average gain of 12. yards.

His end-zone lethality was also on display with LSU. He notched four touchdowns for the squad at the tight end spot.

Thaddeus Moss in the NFL

The road got bumpy for Randy Moss’ son when he turned pro. The Commanders, then the Washington Football Team, took a chance on him but he was in and out of the roster. To put it into perspective, he was placed on the injured reserve twice and was waived four times.

He then made his way back with some of his former LSU teammates with the Bengals. Unfortunately, the same cycle of getting cut and being on the IR kept happening. He was on the Bengals’ practice squad twice before getting waived in 2022.
